I ended up not going to school - Dr Mom's orders - honestly I didn't mind because I needed the rest, I just hadn't realised that. Between the pressure coming from teachers and parents about obtaining good results so you can get into a good university, the amount of schoolwork, stress about not getting good results - let alone passing - and... drum roll please... the break up, which had surprisingly taken a huge toll on.

My phone rang snatching me away from my thoughts,"Hello..." I said answering in a dragged tone, not even bothering to look at the caller ID. "Umm... hey Lu, it's Brad..." I quickly sat up and fixed myself on the bed, then remembered he can't see me and tried to reply in the most excited tone I could master but failed dismally.

"...Oh hi Brad, how are you..." I answered sniffing in between.

"I'm good, but if this is a bad time then I can call some other time..."

"No this isn't a bad time, what gave you that idea?" I asked.

"Well you don't sound good at all, you sound like you have a blocked nose, and the sniffing makes it sound like you've been crying if you aren't crying now... no offense"

"Non taken" I said laughing "Actually, I do have flu and my periods couldn't have chosen a better time to grace me with their presence" I added.

"Ooooh you must be going through the most, hope you get better soon" he said in a tone full of sympathy.

"Yeah well, perks of being a girl"

"Well... you know they say laughter is the best medicine" he said in a mischievous voice.

"Yes..."

"Answer this... Why do women make the best soldiers?"

"I don't know but I'm guessing you gonna let me know" I answered laughing because I had an idea what his answer might be.

"Because they can bleed for up to five days without dying..." then he burst out in laughter, the contagious kind.

" Ha ha very funny Brad, you should consider being a comedian you know" I said mocking him.

"No thank you, I offer private services to my loved ones only, so consider yourself special..."

"... and loved?" I quickly added, then regretted afterwards because of the awkwardness it created. I heard him clear his throat on the other end of the line,"So umm... how's Sky?" he finally said, I had actually forgotten that they knew each other but this probably wasn't a genuine question, it was a question that was meant to remind me that I have a boyfriend.

"Yeah...ummm... we broke up..." I said in a low voice.

"I'm sorry to hear that, if you..."

"No I'm fine" I quickly answered before he could finish.

"Alright... are you sure that you aren't sick because..." he trailed off, obviously wanting me to finish off.

"No!" I said laughing,"You know I take my school work way more seriously than that"

"Hey you never know Lu, I know I would pull a stunt like that" he said laughing

"Well I wouldn't..." but wouldn't I? I thought to myself, it would take some time for me to get over the stunt Sky pulled and if I pretend to be sick and stay at home, that gives me some time to regroup and go back to school stronger and looking unaffected by what he did.

"Hey Lu, something just came up, I'll call you later okay?" Brad, who I had forgotten was still on the call with me, said on the other end of the call.

"Yeah it's cool..." I answered absentmindly and heard him drop the call.

All I need is to convince mom mom that I'm still too sick to go to school and I'll have a whole week of rest, including the weekend... but how?

"Wake up Lucy, it's morning already, are you going to school?" Mom said shaking me, "I don't know, I still don't feel too well hey..." I said with a groggy voice, and rubbing my eyes.

"Yeah I thought so too honey, I heard you running to the toilet to vomit the whole night, maybe you should go see the doctor..." she said touching my forehead, "You even have a fever Lucy" she said looking at me with worry plastered on her face."Mom I'm fine really; bed rest, Med-lemon and painkillers will do, I'm sure by next week Monday I will be fine. "Next week Monday Lucy?!?!? that's a whole week of work you would have missed!!!" She said with a disapproving face."Don't worry mom, Mia is sending me the work via Whatsapp and I'm doing it here at home so I'm really not falling behind or anything like that" I said trying to convince her that this was our best option right now.

"Well okay..." she said finally giving in,"...but if I can tell you okay either tommorow or Friday then you are going to school you hear me?" she said standing up and leaving my room.

"Of course mom..." I said so low she probably didn't hear.

Hey peeps... Our girl Lucy is going through the most hey, dodging school???
