1It was safe to go.
The soft snores of the blonde embraced the quiet atmosphere of the room, and in the silent corner, the commander laid ever still, shroud in a blanket of mystery.
With carpet providing extra silence, I made my way over to the desk. The atmosphere stayed quiet and neither of the occupants were disturbed.
In the rapid eye movement stage of sleep, not even the most well trained soldiers can wake easily, and if they do, the memory is hazy and often forgotten. That's why I was trained to avoid this stage... but after that day, I can't - don't - sleep
It doesn't matter anymore.
The transparent screen appeared before me as I activated the computer. Holographic images and displays lit up with the rapid typing of my fingers. In flashes of green and blue, text appeared and disappeared like a dying person's life before their eyes.
It only took a minute for them to die and it only took a minute before I was in.
There was no firewalls, no encryptions, nothing that provided security for their systems. I assumed this was the case as they thought they were safe because these people lived a primitive life. And in that case, they probably didn't expect me to still be alive. So would they still have my file? Only one way to find out.
I quickly browsed through their system, searching for anything that mentioned subject 13. After some digging, I managed to find one single file. But that was more than enough for me.
Now that I knew my code was still active in Mt Weather, I can destroy it, and I didn't even need to do it alone like before. The two sleeping humans behind me had asked me for help to infiltrate that cursed mountain, so that means I can kill two birds with one stone.
My decision was made quite easily after that.
With my mind made up, I proceeded to back out of their system. Except, one specific document caught my eye, Radiation Blood Transfusion (RBT). What could this be used for?
Opening it required a passcode so it must be of great importance because not even my file had a password. Inferring from the document name, I chose to use the username and password of one of their important doctors. And as I thought, I was in.
RBT. So that was what they were doing with the commander's people. It's a shame that they haven't changed at all. Experimenting on humans for their own benefits, pathetic.
But I wondered why Clarke was so intent on defeating Mt Weather. Could it be because she had an interest in the commander or was it for another reason?
I scrolled deeper digging for the answer.
The personals that fell from the sky are immune to the radiation of Earth... we have sufficient evidence to suggest that the persons are descendants of those who were in space of the time of the nuclear explosions... after experimentations, it has been found that grounder blood or organic cells is not useful for radiation immunity with the bodies of more developed homo sapiens but is useful for healing radiation wounds... there is still hope for immunity to Earth's radiation as after research, the new arrivals' DNA are more compatible with ours than that if grounders'... the sky people's blood is ineffective for radiation immunity, more experimenting is required... we have found that if the bone marrow of the sky people is extracted and implemented into the body for extended periods, radiation immunity can be developed...
So that's why.
The commander's people are being farmed like cows for medical treatment while Clarke's people are harvested. From everything that I've gathered so far, I can assume that the mountain people are not immune to the radiation reside of the war. And Mt Weather has found that Clarke's people can be harvested for radiation immunity. That means they can roam free and 'conquer' these new civilisations like before.
Well, that's for them to figure out, I'm not going to be involved in another war now that I'm free. But I'll help them infiltrated the mountain so I can turn off my code and that is all I will do.
I turned everything off and made sure that things were the exact same as before - down to the last hair. I quietly returned to my domain with only a couple seconds of rapid eye movement sleep remaining. Perfect. Now I can rest until dawn and then see what the new outside world has install for me.
I closed my eyes.
Butterflies.
Butterflies surrounded me and her as we laid in a field of flowers.
"I love you so much," she said.
I smiled and squeezed her hand lightly, showing her that I felt the same...
but everything went dark.
"I HATE YOU."
"YOU'RE A MONSTER."
"I'D STILL BE ALIVE IF YOU WERE HERE."
...
Now 13, we can't have you dying on us can we? You'll be on 24hr surveillance from now on until we deem you stable enough to continue.
"Take her to the white room."
