Elizabeth waited.

She and Meliodas were in the tavern alone. She knew he was downstairs. She knew he would come upstairs to talk to her.

There was no avoiding it.

After tense moments of waiting, she heard movements from downstairs. Elizabeth was still, he back to the door, not wanting to face Meliodas. She didn't know what she would do if she saw him again, if he touched her again.

As his footsteps grew closer, she fiddled with her hair, doing anything to keep her mind busy. Candles flickered around her, casting the room in a golden night. The sight of their dancing silhouettes calmed her.

At last, she heard a knock on the door. "Elizabeth," Meliodas said. "Can I come in?"

Elizabeth nodded, and realizing he couldn't see her, blushed. "Yes,'' She managed to squeak out. "Come in."

Meliodas stepped into the room, his boots scuffing on the hardwood floor, the door closing behind him with a soft click. There was a tense moment of silence, the silence so heavy it felt as if the walls were closing in.

"Why were you gone for so long?" She asks, her voice wavering .

"Why, did you miss me?" Meliodas jokes.

Yes, Elizabeth thought. When she tried to answer, though, the words got stuck in her throat. She nodded her head instead.

Meliodas sighed. "I just wanted to investigate the town a bit. There isn't much out there."

Elizabeth didn't answer, instead her hands went to her bed, tracing the pattern of the blanket.

Elizabeth's heartbeat was still in her ears. It took her everything to not turn around and face him. To not run to him and embrace him. She wondered why she was holding herself back.

"Elizabeth." Meliodas said, his voice going deeper.

The way he said her name sent heat to her blood. She was glad he could not see her face.

"Why...why did you get me this?" She motioned to her body, to the clothing that was barely covering it. "It's just.. you've seemed more distant lately. Why would you want me to wear this?"

Meliodas took a deep breath, and moved closer. He was only a few steps away from her now. She still faced the window.

"Honestly, it was only meant to be a joke." he said, finally. "I thought I knew how you would react to it. I never thought you would put it on."

He moved closer. "When I left the tavern, I thought about you," He murmured. "I thought about how you would look when you wore it. And when I came back, and I saw you were wearing it.."

He was so close now, Elizabeth could feel his breath on her neck.

"I wanted to devour you."

All of Elizabeth's thoughts short-circuited, heat pooling low in the core of her body. Her breaths came shallow.

She could stand it no longer. She slowly turned her head to Meliodas, her eyes connecting with his, fierce and intense and lustful. Their lips were a breath away, and all of Elizabeth's body yearned for the feeling of him.

"Kiss me, Meliodas."

And so he did.

...

When Meliodas's lips connected with hers, it felt like breathing. It felt like fire, raw and hot.

Meliodas's lips ravaged hers, his arms coming around her waist and positioning on her back, his body hovering over her. Their breaths came quick as their kisses became more wanting, more needing, more desperate, as if one of them would disappear any second.
