The time finally came for the meeting with the Avengers, we sat around our family table and waited for this government official to show. We sat in silence, the team was quite nervous for this meeting and it showed. Nobody knew what to expect from this. We continued to sit in silence until Tony tried to break the awkwardness flowing through the room.
"Oh come on guys I'm sure everything will be fine, lighten up!"
The team tried to crack a smile but everyone was on the edge of their seat, even Bucky. Suddenly, the door open and out came an older looking man. Bucky whispered to you:
"I'm guessing that's the government dude, he doesn't look too scary!" He smiled, trying to lighten the mood.
Before you could get a word in to Buck, the government official introduces himself as he passes around these packets.
"My name is Thaddeus Ross, I am the secretary of state and I'm here to present to you the Sokovia Accords."
Disregarding that old hags introduction, you focused your attention to what the packet said. You read, "The Sokovia Accords. Approved by a hundred and seventeen countries, it states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, they'll operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, only when and if that panel deems it necessary." You look over at Bucky and point to the writing so he can read.
"What the fu-"
Before Bucky could finish, you stood up.
"We're the Avengers created to protect those who can't protect themselves and I think we've done a damn good job at it."
State Secretary Ross gives you the nastiest look.
"Oh yeah? You've done a "damn good job" protecting it, let's see what your team says about that."
He then pulls up videos of you on a mission. The video including graphic events: people getting hurt, buildings being destroyed, bombs exploding, and more. You slowly sit back in your chair, embarrassed. With this being said, you began to curl your hands into a fist, digging your nails into them.
"We've all had our fair share of mistakes but we do it for the people sir." Steve spoke out trying to save your ass from your embarrassing speech.
"Mistakes? These mistakes cost people their lives Steve, this isn't fair. Think of all the lives we've put on the line. I'm sure Secretary Ross can pull up footage of us wrecking the city as well." Tony argued
Secretary Ross chimed in, "If you guys want to see that footage, I have it by the way!"
"Listen Tony, sadly we can't save all but we can do our best to say most and that starts with us out there to help." Steve said
"No, no, no, no. No more helping when help isn't necessary. We need to back the hell off Cap!"
State Secretary Ross interrupted, "Read the packet and make up your minds. You all need to be at the court house tomorrow to sign the Accords and if you don't, let's just say it won't end well."
Secretary Ross left with his head held high knowing that he had fun blaming the Avengers for the cost of citizens lives. In the meantime, the team began to argue.
"Sign the Accords."
"No"
"Think of the people we are saving."
"We can't save people if we aren't on the scene to help."
"This is all your fault."
"You have no control over us, we have the right to our own opinion."On and on the continued to argue, stressing you out even more. You couldn't even tell who was rooting for who. You stepped in.
"I'm sorry but I don't agree, we are the Avengers man. Everything we do is for the people and I think we have proven that."
