Chapter 2
Remi's POVI ran through the hall looking for John so I can apologize for what happened at the cafeteria.
"Where is he?" I thought
After running through the halls I soon found him going up the stairs to go onto the roof.
"John!"
He turned to look at me, but continued walking up the stairs. Opening the door to the roof, he made his way onto the roof closing the door behind him.
I made my way up the stairs and opened the door to the roof. John was sitting down with his back against the wall staring at the ground.
"Why did you follow me?"
He looked up at me with a glare.
"I came here to apologize for what Blyke and Isen did in the cafeteria."
He looked at me shocked.
"Wh-"
"I don't agree that low-tiers aren't allowed to be friends with high-tiers because they're weak. Power shouldn't determine someone's worth. Everyone deserves a chance, powerful or not."
John looked at me and looked to the floor.
John's POV
I look at Remi after processing what she said. Memories started to come back to me that I honestly wish I could forget. Each individual one stung and hurt differently.
"I don't agree that low- tiers aren't allowed to be friends with higher-tiers because they're weak. Power shouldn't determine someone's worth. Everyone deserves a chance, powerful or not."
...................
"Ugh"
John fell back as a punch landed across his face. He could taste the metallic taste of blood from the inside of his mouth. His face stung and he knew there would be a bruise there later.
All he did was try to sit down with a group of his classmates for lunch. He didn't really know anybody in his class and he thought it would be a good idea to try to make some friends. What did he do to be punched in the face?
"You damn brat! What the hell do you think you are doing?!"
The boy, who was now standing up, had blue hair and green eyes. He wore a blue shirt and khaki shorts. He glared at John with his eyes glowing, indicating that his ability was active. He kicked John in the gut, causing him to cough up blood. His ability had to be some form of strength enhancement if he was able to hit this hard.
"I-l just wanted to sit with y'all for lunch and maybe get to know you a little better... w-we are in the same class so I thought-"
"And why would you think we had any intention of getting to know a worthless cripple like you?"
"Just because I don't have an ability doesn't mean that we couldn't be frie-"
"What! Friends? You have got to be joking. Take a look around you. No one here gives a sh*t about who you are. We don't want to know you. A weakling like you will never be friends with us."
The boy turned to the table and grabbed the milk carton he had gotten from the cafeteria. Before John knew it, the boy had poured it over him. Everyone that saw this started laughing at the boy on the ground.
"Maybe next time you'll think about that the next time you show your face in this school."
John didn't know what else to do but grab his lunch and run. He didn't want to give his classmates the satisfaction that they had broken him, but he had tears in his eyes as he sat down at the side of the school.
"Why?"
"Why does it have to be like this?"
........................
John was staring at the ground for what seemed like a couple minutes. Remi swore she could see a tear rolling down his face.
"Uh John... are you ok?"
"Heh I guess this school won't be as bad as I thought. Maybe there is hope that things can be different." John said, forming a smile.
"Thank you, Remi. I'm sorry for causing so much trouble for you on the first day." John's mood had changed and I could see it in his eyes, a look of what seemed like hope.
Remi walked over and sat next to John. "Don't worry about it, you are a new student so it was the least I could have done." A smile appearing on her face.
"I've never seen a high tier, or honestly anyone else, say they can be friends with someone like me. It feels like a huge weight off my chest knowing that someone out there is willing to be my friend even though I'm a cripple."
"I never thought that rank should determine the worth of a person. Why should someone that was born stronger have more worth than someone that wasn't? Why does power always have to matter? What is wrong with sitting down and talking with someone when there is an argument? What is wrong with giving someone weaker a chance to prove that they have worth to? The system is flawed and looks down upon those that weren't born as strong as others. I wish there were more people like you out there, that believe that power isn't everything, that people on the lower side of the ladder can prove themselves too."
Remi looked at John, "You must be very strong for someone that has to live with these circumstances. I don't know if I would be strong enough to get through it. Hopefully, someday this system can- "
*Ring Ring Ring*
"Oh that's the bell, we should probably head to class now."
Remi sat up and John followed after her. Before they reached the door John asked,
"Wait do you want to get Wobba Bobba after School?"
"Sure!"
