Joey is acting in a play tonight, you are invited to come and watch him.
"Are you guys serious? You can at least come and sit there and act like you like it." you say, crossing your arms over your chest.
They all look down, not daring to look at you, they all canceled on Joey's invitation and some of them have a good excuse but others don't have one at all. You know that the plays that Joey acts in are not always the best, but you always show up to support him because he loves to act and who doesn't like it when their friends come and watch them do the thing they love.
"I watched his last play.." Ross shrugs his shoulders.
"I rehearse with him," Chandler says while he puts down the magazine he was looking in.
"So see Monica.. I just have to go." Chandler turns his head towards Monica who's cooking up something in the kitchen, she immediately turns around and puts her spatula up in the air like she wants to warn him.
"No Chandler! I'm finally meeting your father tonight and you need to be here." Monica says.
Chandler sighs deeply before looking up at you with a 'please-help-me' look in his eyes and you chuckle before looking at the others, Rachel pretends to be reading in her book and you can only frown at the sight of her. You know that Phoebe would of have tagged along if she wasn't on that weekend away with her new boyfriend.
"Fine, it will just be me then.. I'm deeply disappointed in all of you." you say before grabbing your coat and leaving the apartment.

It's already late as you make your way into the theater, it took you ages to get here because you just couldn't find a cab and when you finally got one the driver liked talking about his problems with his wife more then driving. So, it was the slowest cab ride that you have ever experienced.
You quickly find your seat and take of your coat before you sit down, the lights in the theater are being turned down so there's only a spotlight that shines on the red curtains that are draped infront of the stage.
The play is not very good, you really try to see the good in it but the storyline is awful and it doesn't make much sense. Most people in the theater have walked out during the play and so by the end there's only you and some older man left because he has fallen asleep.
Joey's smile falls down on his face as he receives applause but it's only you that is clapping and so it's very silent. The other actors are quick to walk off stage but Joey keeps standing there, he looks so sad and it makes you feel really bad for him. You put up your hand to catch his attention and mention him to walk over to you. Joey is quick to jump off stage and makes his way over towards the middle row where you are sitting.
"Congrats Joe, you did amazing tonight." you say.
Joey smiles weakly before he sits himself down on the seat next to you and throws his legs up on the seat infront of him, he closes his eyes and throws his head back while another sigh leaves his lips.
"Why do I still act.. I'm not even good and they only accept me for shitplays." Joey mumbles.
You carefully take a hold of his hand and it makes him open his eyes, he looks down at your hand that's holding onto his before turning his head and looking at you.
"You're a good actor, Joe. You keep doing it because you love it and I think that's the most important thing. Atleast you do something in life that you like to do, who cares if it's in shitplays.. The only thing they make me see is what a star you are for playing those roles and actually making the play better." you say and you feel how Joey intertwines his fingers with yours.
"I can't believe that you haven't missed a single play that I'm in.. Also, your words are way to sweet. Thank you." Joey says as he looks deeply into your eyes.
You smile softly and feel how he cups your cheek with his hand, you have the biggest crush on him and so longed for his touch for a while now. This all feels like a dream. Joey leans forwards and you close your eyes and wait for his lips to be on yours but you soon feel them on your cheek instead.
"I have a date with the make-up girl tonight," Joey says as he lets go of your hand and stands up.
"Thanks for coming, I couldn't wish for a better friend." he pats you on the back before running off to the stage, jumping on it and then disappearing behind the curtains. It leaves you all alone in an empty theater.
"Ofcourse, friend.." you mumble to yourself as tears form themselves in your eyes.
You'll always be just his friend...
