Alan stumbled through the ash-covered ground, his bare feet bleeding and covered in the soot of the burning forest around him. The smoke burned his throat and lungs and the sprinkles of ash still floating down around him felt like rocks being thrown against his skin. Why? Had he really deserved all this?
He coughed violently, blood splattering against the ash and dirt. He couldn't go on anymore, his body was giving out. He could barely summon even a wildflower from the fire-choked earth. The burning. He had to stop the burning...but it hurt so bad. He was dead as soon as she poured kerosene on those first trees and struck a match.
His body was trembling as he knelt in the dirt, his veins full of the fire that raged around him. His forest. The very one he had raised all those years ago, gone in minutes. Burns and soot covered the gods body, his fingers bloody and clumped with dirt and ash. He could barely look up as he heard footsteps.
"Why?" he croaked, letting himself tremble. Tears rolled down his face and made clean tracks through his dirt coated face.
"You hurt me. I wanted you to feel it too." Her voice was calm but towards the end it snapped with bitter anger.
"Your precious forest always came first. Before the kids, before us, before me!" Now her voice had the same tremble as the god kneeling before her, "I want you to look around and see what you have lost before I kill you."
