Jake woke up the next morning at six. The lights were dull so he assumed he was alone in the hospital room. He tried to move his right arm first, knowing the left arm would hurt more. He wiggled his fingers a bit stopped when he felt something warm and soft. He moved his eyes down his body and saw someone's hand gingerly holding his own. He smiled when he say the dark brown hair covering Amy's face.
He moved his leg slightly and Amy's eyes opened to see Jake's smile. She jumped up, "Jake! Oh my god." Amy starting sobbing again, "You're okay?" She meant it as a statement but Jake could hear the questioning tone.
"Yeah. I'm okay," he said, squeezing her hand. His eyes were wide, staring at his partner's body shake as she cried. "Amy . . . " Jake squeezed her hand again and pulled her towards him, "Come here."
Amy climbed onto the bed and lied down next to Jake, and he wrapped his arms around her. He held her tight until she stopped shaking. She sat up, but didn't let go of Jake's arm. She wiped at her eyes with her free hand before speaking.
"Thanks a lot for getting shot and scaring the crap out of me Peralta," she said with a smile.
"Sorry. I'll try not to let it happen again," he said as he played with her fingers.
"How's the pain?" She asked, concerned. "I know your head was really bad when we were back in the warehouse."
"My head feels a lot better now. My ribs have a dull ache. My shoulder kills though," he said.
Amy reached forward and placed a soft kiss on his forehead before getting up. "I'll go get a nurse." She walked away and Jake stared after her in wonderment.
