Eric ran behind me, urging me forward. He somehow got me to my feet and talked me into getting on the train with him. I don't know why I agreed, but the way he handled me so gently led me to believe that he really wouldn't hurt me.
The train shot past us. Eric yelled for me to go faster, but I couldn't. My body ached and I wasn't sure how much longer I would last. The amount of carts was dwindling down. We only had three more chances to get on. I readied myself to jump, but suddenly a hand wound around my waist and hoisted me into the air.
Apprarently, Eric had jumped onto the last cart and leaned down to grab my body as the train rushed forward. I had to admit, he was incredibly strong. He pushed me into the cart, then followed suit. The train doors closed behind us as I sat down, my back pressed against the cart wall.
"What were...you doing...at Amity?" I asked, trying to catch my breath.
I pulled my knees into my chest as I waited for his response. He stood opposite me, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed tightly over his chest.
"I was out for a walk." He replied, flatly.
"Were you stalking me?"
He scoffed. "Fuck no."
"Then what were you doing in the woods?" I pressed on, demanding an answer.
"I already told you."
"You're lying."
"And how would you know that?"
"Just answer my question. You must've been really close to haved helped me."
He slid down into a sitting position and stretched his legs. He was pretty tall, so his feet just about touched mine. Minutes passed of just him staring at me, his lips pressed into a flat line.
After a while, when I thought the conversation had dropped, he rolled his eyes away from mine and said, "Amity fields have to best view of the stars."
My eyes widened. "You were star gazing?"
He furrowed his brow. "I was looking at the constellations."
"Were you there when Scotty and I were?"
He nodded. "I moved into the woods, but then you guys followed, so I left. I was heading back to wait for the train when I heard you screaming."
"Oh, my god." I sighed. "We were chasing after your piercings, weren't we?"
"What?"
"Your piercings." I tapped above my brow. "They glimmer in the moon light. I wanted to know what it was, so I went after it. If I knew it was you, I would've never 'followed' you into the woods."
Again, silence. He took this lapse in conversation to scrape the dried blood off of his knuckles. I busied myself with touching my face. My jaw felt pretty tender, but my nose. God, my nose. The second I touched it, I winced and let out a whimper. My fingers gingerly felt over the dried blood that ran from my nostrils all the way down to my chin. How could Eric take me so seriously with such a fucked up face?
"It's broken." He said.
"How can you tell from over there?"
"It's disfigured. And your eyes are already swelling. That only happens when it breaks."
"How do I fix it?"
"I can reset it."
"How?"
He sighed. "Do you want your nose fixed or not?"
"It really hurts." I whined, gingerly touching it.
