"You are just full of surprises!" Lola exclaimed, throwing a punch at my shoulder.

She had leaped only moments ago, but she wasn't the last. As soon as she got on her feet, she went searching for me. While the other transfers and Dauntless Borns whispered about me, she had no problem voicing her amazement.

I winced, fighting the urge to rub my tender skin and sooth the pain from her fist. I didn't want to seem like a wussy. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"You jumped first! Out of everybody, the god damn Amity jumped first. Are you kidding me?"

"I guess I am full of surprises."

She laughed. "You really are."

Once everyone jumped from the roof, we all gathered into one huge group. There was still no sign of Eric, and I wondered where on Earth he could be. If he wasn't on the roof with the other leaders, or in here with Four and Lauren, where else would he be hiding?

"Alright everybody, for those of you who don't know, my name is Four. And before any of you make a smart ass remark, yes, it is after the number."

Everyone stifled a laugh as Four introduced himself. I guessed he got that a lot. A handsome man with such an odd name. Lauren, the woman beside him, rolled her eyes then introduced herself as well. Neither of them were leaders, just intelligence staff who were also in charge of training the initiates.

Once that was all said and done, the two clustered up the group and lead us down a narrow tunnel. Everything was stone; the walls, the ceiling, the floor. It was a bit damp and cold, not one window in sight to let sun or air in. The lights on the wall were intricate bulbs that hung spaces apart. Pretty, in a way.

Lola chattered beside me, informing me pretty much everything that Dauntless had to offer. Her explanation seemed much more interesting than Four and Lauren's tour. So far, her, Taz, and Cage were the only ones to talk to me. The others either had no interest or were afraid of me. I wasn't sure which one was worse.

Suddenly, the group stopped. I halted just in time before I slammed into a Candor girl's shoulder.

"This is where we split." Lauren said. "Dauntless-borns, come with me. You sure as hell don't need a tour of this place."

The group divided quickly. Lola and the boys said their goodbyes and told me we'd catch up during lunch. After the Dauntless-borns left, only 7 others stood beside me. Three Candors and Four Erudites. I was the only Amity transfer. There were no abnegations.

Four cleared his throat, grabbing everyone's attention. He leaned against double doors and explained, "Behind these doors is the Pit. It's pretty much the center of Dauntless."

Without another word, he shoved the doors open and walked through, the eight of us trailing behind him.

The Pit took my breath away. I would have never imagined such a thing, and there it was in all it's glory. Rock walls stood high at several stories and spread so far that I couldn't even see the other side. Built into them were were stores that supplied food, clothes - anything you would ever need. There was even a tattoo parlor.

My eyes climbed higher and higher. Within the rock walls were paths and steps that had no railings. If you fell, you'd be dead. As my eyes reached the ceiling, I find it's made of orange glass; the only source of light other than the lamps that hang on the walls.

As our group walks one of the paths, I peer over the edge towards the floor of the Pit. It's bustling with people dressed in black. They're yelling, screaming, fighting, and laughing. A smile I had not sensed formed on my lips.

I could get used to this

Besides the fighting and the screaming, it was quite similar to Amity.

"Follow me! I'll show you the chasm." Four shouted.

I hurried to catch up with the group, making damn sure that I wouldn't be left behind. We traveled to the right side of the pit. A path here, a few steps there, and suddenly the roar of a coursing river began ringing in my ears.

We approached what seemed like a flat, iron bridge that connected the stone floors together. If it wasn't there, there would be no way for us to get to the other side. It's an odd bridge as a railing only appears on one side. The other is free of protection, which meant one slip and down you went into the deadly river.

"The chasm reminds us that there is a line between bravery and idiocy." Four states, narrowing his eyes. "Many people have lost their lives up here. Be cautious."

Suddenly, a figure appeared out of a dark hallway to our left. The sound of steel toed boots grabbed our attention as the person carelessly walked across the iron bridge and towards Four without a word. The group fell silent at the sight of him. My heart stopped. I felt as though I was going to faint right into the chasm.

There, in all his glory, stood Eric.

He looked unamused, his face slack of any emotion. His posture was ridged, and his hands were folded behind his back as he glanced at us. Four seemed to stiffen at his presence.

I couldn't believe how amazing he looked. His hair gelled perfectly, the collar of his jacket hiding his gorgeous tattoos that my teeth used to assault. His form fitting attire caused butterflies to erupt in my stomach, but I suppose what really got me was seeing this handsome hunk of man in Dauntless. I had waited months to see this. How confident he looked in his position of power. How masculine he was and how at home he looked. This was his palace to do with what he wished.

The time had finally come. I was finally in Dauntless with Eric.

The sound of someone clearing their throat brought me back to reality. The two Dauntless men stared at each other, as if testing who would break first.

"Eric." Four greeted. "I thought you had a meeting to attend."

"It finished early." Eric clarified, his tone bored. "Why don't you introduce me to your new friends, Four."

"I think you're capable of doing that yourself."

The look Eric shot over to Four was lethal. If that were me, I think I would have disappeared into thin air. But Four was tough, it seemed. He didn't falter under Eric's hard gaze. In fact, he smirked. Were these two friends?

Our instructor rolled his shoulders as if to relax himself, and he gestured towards my handsome lover.

"Initiates, this is Eric. He is one of the five Dauntless leaders."

Murmuring erupted from our little group. The initiates around me were surprised at how young he was. The other leaders either had greying hair or crows feet, and then there was this god-like creature standing before us, thriving in his glory. He knew the effect he had on people.

"I'll be assisting Four with your tour." He said, turning on his heel. "Let's go."

I hurried ahead of the rest of the initiates, careful not to make it obvious that I wanted to please Eric. I definitely wanted to, in more ways than one, but that would have to wait. For now, I just wanted to be as close to him as possible.
