3 months. It’s been 3 months since I’ve seen Emma. 3 months of barely any communication except for a few phone calls. I bounce on the balls of my feet in the elevator. We’re on the cover of this month’s GLAMOUR and I wanted to surprise Emma when we all walked in the office. I hope she doesn’t punch me like she normally does when I surprise her. The door opened and we walked into the office. I knew from before that Emma worked towards the end. I held a finger to my lips and walked quietly down to her office. Her co-workers watched me and smiled. I had asked them all to be quiet about me coming. I made my way to her office and glanced in the window. Her back was to me and she was looking out the window with her phone in her hand, wrapping the cord around her finger. Her assistant smiled at me before opening the door. I followed her in.

“Just leave the papers on my desk please.” Emma said, not even looking away from the window. She sounded tired. “Thank you Karen.” She said a few seconds later. I realized Karen must be the name of her assistant.

“Thank you Karen.” I mouthed to her. She smiled before closing the door. I sat down in a chair in front of Emma’s desk. She was still looking out the window.

“Yes. Okay, I will give you the papers by tomorrow.” She said goodbye and turned to hang up the phone. She stopped, her hand with the phone hovering in midair. She was looking at me confused.

“Harry?” She said slowly. She was blinking and looking at me in disbelief.

“Surprise!” I said. I stood up and she dropped the phone and ran around her desk to hug me. She ran at me and almost knocked me back into the chair. She wrapped her arms around me tightly and buried her face in my chest. I held her back just as tightly.

“I’ve missed you so much.” She said.

“I’ve missed you too.” She released me and stepped back a few steps. I could see she was crying.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, taking her hand worriedly. “Did I say something? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”

“No you idiot.” She said punching me in the arm. “I’m happy to see you!” I smiled and she smiled back. Now I could get a good look at her. Her stomach had a slight curve to it, which she was hiding with a loose blouse and a jacket. She had dark circles under her eyes and she was leaning on her desk for support. Her smile was wide though and it lit up her whole face. I pulled her to me as gently as I could and kissed her.

“I’ve missed you more than you could ever imagine.” I murmured.

After the photo shoot Emma and I went to our apartment. I walked in and looked around. She had told me what she had done to the place but I had yet to see pictures. It opened into a small living room with gray walls and cheerful lemon yellow furniture. The living room led to an open kitchen. Behind the couch was a raised area with a dining table and windows that showed views of the street. On the window sills were the pictures I has sent Emma and the kangaroo was sitting in the center of the table.

“Do you like it? I wasn’t sure about the color but I think it turned out nice.” Emma said behind me.

“It’s different. I like it though.” I said, turning to her. She smiled.

“What do you want for dinner?” She asked as she headed towards the kitchen.

“I’ll make something, you sit down.” I said.

“No, you’re probably jet lagged. I’ll make dinner.” She said with a laugh.

“I haven’t cooked in three months, please?” I pouted. I was actually pretty tired but Emma was practically swaying on her feet, I couldn’t ask her to cook for me.

“Fine. But I’m making you breakfast.”

“Perfect.” I kissed her cheek before going into the kitchen.

The next morning I found the nursery. It was painted a pale peach color with pictures of Winnie the Pooh hung on the walls. There was a white crib in the corner but other than that there was nothing else in the room.

“I got it from IKEA; it took me three days to assemble it.” Emma said as she came into the room.

“Really? I didn’t think you knew what a hammer was.” I teased Emma. She made a face at me.

“Very funny, who tried to fix the sink and then turned our apartment into a lake?”

“It’s not my fault! The instructions were in Spanish.”

“Tu es loco.”

“Excuse me?”

“4 years of Spanish in high school and that’s all I can say.” She was smirking at me, the way she did when she thought she was clever.

“Really? You are crazy is all you can say in Spanish?”

“Si.”  I threw up my hands in mock frustration. She laughed and I pulled her closer to me.

“Just to be clear I don’t want to name our child Esteban.” I said.

“Damnit that was my first choice!”

“Language!”

“I don’t think its ears are developed yet.” She put a hand on her stomach and frowned.

“You still shouldn’t fucking swear.” I smirked.

“I’ll do whatever the fuck I want.” She said, smirking right back.

“I fucking love you.”

“I fucking love you too.”

Before I knew it I had to leave again. Emma rode with me to the airport where the guys were waiting.

“Emma!” Louis said as soon as he saw us. He shoved something behind his back, the guys were smiling. “I didn’t think you were coming.”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“Just give it to her.” Zayn said. Louis showed us what was hidden behind his back. It was a red onesie with the word ‘Directioner’ written on it in black. Underneath was a picture us on stage. I smiled; leave it to them to find something like this.

“It’s perfect.” Emma said with a smile.

“How did you find this?” I asked.

“Online, well actually Erica found it.” Niall said.

“Tell her I said thank you.” Emma said. I looked up from the onesie to find Liam staring at Emma. He looked as though he wanted to say something. Emma gave Niall a hug, smiling at him. Liam caught me staring and flushed slightly before clearing his throat and telling Zayn something. I narrowed my eyes; something was going on between them. The guys started gathering their bags and made their way towards the gate. Emma turned to me once we were alone. I pushed her and Liam out of my mind. It was probably nothing and if it wasn’t she would have told me. She smiled at me.

“Where are you going next?” She asked.

“I don’t know, they’ll tell us on the plane.”

“I hope it’s someplace warm.”

“It’s April, it’ll be summer before you know it.”  She looked down, there was only so much small talk we could make before we had to face the fact that I was leaving. She reached up and kissed my cheek.

“I love you. Have fun.” She said quietly before backing away. There were tears in her eyes but she smiled as waved as I gathered up my bags and left.
