If Harry was happy before he was ecstatic now. I had never seen him so happy. He loved being in the studio and he came home every night and would talk for hours about what he was working on. I loved listening to him but I couldn’t help but be a little sad. In the four weeks that he had been recording, he hadn’t come to my office to surprise me during lunch. He used to come at least once a week and would stay and watch me work and offer his suggestions about things. I pretended not to listen but I always agreed with what he said.

The other guys had decided to start staying at a hotel, saying it was easier if they wanted to work late or leave early. Now I was coming back to an empty apartment every day, just waiting for Harry to come home. I felt clingy and needy and selfish. I started working later just so I wouldn’t be going back to an empty apartment. One day I was called into my boss’s office at work. I straightened my skirt nervously and ran a hand through my hair. Did I do something wrong? My boss hardly ever called me to her office. I knocked and walked in.

“Emma!” My boss greeted me. She was a short woman with wedge cut black hair and an unlined face. The only sign of her age was a single grey streak in her hair. Her bright green eyes shone brightly and she stood up and shook my hand with a firm grip. I perched on the edge of my seat nervously.

“It’s has come to my attention lately that you have been putting a  lot of effort in, including staying later without pay and may I just say your articles are astounding.”

“Thank you.” I said, biting my lip. I always hated praise; I don’t know why it just made me feel like I needed to work harder.

“It’s this kind of dedication that I would love to see on my floor with the editors.” I stared at her and then it hit me.

“You want me to be an editor?” I asked incredulously.

“Promoted to editor yes.” She smiled at me. I shook my head. Yes, one of my goals was to be an editor but it seemed too soon. I had only been working here for 2 years.

“It’s a 10,000 dollar pay increase, if that’s any incentive.” She smirked. Oh shit. That’s a lot of money.

“Uh, um. I mean yes. Yes please.” I stuttered, over whelmed by everything.

“Great. Now for some bad news.” This is a joke isn’t it, I thought. She’s just going to laugh in my face for thinking I was going to be promoted.

“Unfortunately. The position won’t be available to you until a couple weeks, due to paper work and of course office space. Is that okay?”

“That’s fine.” I said relieved.

“Great. Well I’ll see you on my floor next month.” She stood up and I stood up too. I shook her hand.

“Thank you.” I said sincerely.

“No thank you, it’s been a while since I’ve had an employee like you. You’re going to do great things Emma. I can tell.”

A/N: Yay! A double update I'm so proud of myself!
