Mr. & Mrs. Bright - The Beginning

Chapter 7

Once their murder suspect was in custody, JT brought him to the precinct while Jessica, Gil, Dani, and Malcolm headed back to the hotel to check out. 

"It feels so good to be no longer wearing a dress," Dani said to Malcolm as she stepped out of the bathroom from changing before they left the hotel. 

"Whether you're wearing a dress or your normal outfits, you still look really nice," Malcolm said as he checked to make sure he had everything packed in his suitcase. 

Dani blushed in response to Malcolm's comment as she attached her overnight bag to her suitcase and placed them both on the suitcase trolley. 

"Ready to go? JT's waiting for us back at the precinct, and your mother and Gil have already left." Dani said to Malcolm as she handed him his toiletry bag. 

Malcolm took the toiletry bag from Dani and put it in his suitcase. 

"Yeah, I think I have everything now," Malcolm said as he zipped up his suitcase and placed it on the suitcase trolley before pushing it to the door. 

After reaching the elevator, Malcolm and Dani stood on either side of the suitcase trolley, Dani leaning against the elevator wall. 

"I guess now that this is over, we should bring these back to the pawnshop," Dani said as she removed the wedding and engagement rings from her ring finger and held them out to Malcolm. 

"Yeah, I can take care of that. Don't worry." Malcolm said as he took the rings from Dani and put them in his pocket before taking off his own ring and putting it in his pocket with the other two. 

Once Malcolm and Dani had left the elevator, Malcolm stood with the suitcase trolley by the doors while Dani got them checked out of the hotel. 

"I know you said that JT was waiting for us back at the precinct, but would you like to stop for breakfast first?" Malcolm asked Dani as they loaded their suitcases into the trunk of her car. 

Dani looked at Malcolm as she closed the trunk. 

"I'll agree to breakfast if your paying." She said before heading to the driver's side of her car. 

Malcolm chuckled as he got into the passenger seat. 

"I see how it is, make the rich guy pay for breakfast." He said as Dani drove them to the nearest restaurant. 

Once they were in the restaurant, Dani texted Gil that he and JT could do the interrogation without her as she and Malcolm sat down in a booth. 

"Oh look Bright, they have freshly baked blueberry muffins here," Dani said as she pointed to the menu and chuckled. 

Malcolm smiled as a waitress walked over to them to take their drink orders. 

"What can I get you both to drink?" The waitress asked with a smile, glancing at Malcolm every so often, checking him out. 

"I'll have an earl grey tea, please," Malcolm said as he looked across the table at Dani, not noticing that the waitress was checking him out. 

"I'll take an earl grey tea as well please," Dani said looking up at the waitress who was too distracted by Malcolm to care. 

When the waitress continued to stand at their table, Malcolm looked at her for the first time. 

"Two earl grey teas please, and I think I'd like to request a different waitress." He said to the waitress who scoffed at Malcolm's comment before leaving their table. 

"She was totally checking you out and you were oblivious," Dani said with a chuckle to Malcolm once the waitress had left. 

"Really? I guess that would explain why she completely ignored you." Malcolm said as he pulled out his phone to answer the texts he was getting from his mother and sister.
