"What?" Lacey yells into her phone, causing everyone to snap to attention. "Holy shit you- okay, okay, we'll be there in a few hours." Her voice is firm as she finishes the call.
"What was that?" Derek asks when she slips the phone back into her pocket.
"The director of LAPD," I perk up at this, "They have an informant who's given them credible information on a location of Liam Knox."
"Seriously?" I stand from my seat in the conference room at LAPD headquarters, where our whole team has been all day every day for the past five months working on the same goddamn case. Liam Knox. We've already brought down a large number of his suppliers and the men who work for him, effectively putting an end to his counterfeit business, but we haven't been so lucky with the drug cartel.
"Knox himself is meeting with his main fentanyl supplier to get him what we believe to be the biggest import of it yet. From what the CI says, Knox knows we're onto him so he's devised a huge plan to distribute at least ten million dollars worth of fentanyl across the west coast."
"Holy shit." Both Jake and Maggie echo.
"Is Camille in on this?" I ask Lacey softly from my spot next to her.
"Yes, apparently she's the one who's in direct contact with the CI. She's been undercover herself." Lacey shakes her head, clearly disapproving. LAPD and the Los Angeles branch of the FBI have been working closely together to bring Knox down for the past year and in the past few months, we, along with the Oregon branch have been tightly in the loop as well.
I can only imagine what it's like for Lacey and Camille. They've been married for just over a year now and they don't even live in the same state. I haven't seen Lindsey in two weeks, and I'm already missing her. After our two year anniversary, we went a good four months without seeing each other in person, as she was touring the country and kicking ass in PBR.
Literally kicking ass. She's ranked third in the nation right now, and it's only her second year. She's made a shit ton of prize money and already qualified for the national championships. She's been interviewed on multiple shows, written about in newspapers and magazines, she's the biggest hot-shot there is.
Lindsey came back to Seattle for one of the final stops of the tour a few weeks ago, and now she's in LA, then going to Vegas for the championship. I got to see her compete in person when she was here, and I brought the whole team along as well. As I predicted, she won the tournament.
"So we're going to LA?" Vanessa asks, staring at us from behind her computer screen.
Vanessa has been working on our team for four months now as well, I finally convinced Lacey to hire her and fill the last spot on our team. Let me just say, she makes life so much better for us all. From everything she can get us on anyone to narrow down searches, finding old records and information to hacking.
"We're going to LA. We get to take the Bureau's private jet. Go home and pack for a week, I expect to see everyone in three hours for takeoff." Lacey orders, and instantly the entire team is up, gathering their things and leaving.
"So we get to see our girls?" I fall in step beside Lacey as we walk out of the building.
"Camille and I are trying to get pregnant." She blurts, and I stop abruptly.
"What?"
"Camille- she's, um...we're trying to have a baby. We both want a baby and we picked a sperm donor and she's carrying." Lacey faces me, now smiling.
"Oh my god! Why is this the first I'm hearing of this?"
"She doesn't want anyone to know until she's actually pregnant. We...lost the first baby."
