Fate POV
A new student. Already.
Strange, yes. School hasn't even started yet, won't start till a few days but there's already a new student.
I mean, new girl.
I volunteered from the School heads. They were like, 'Now who wants to show this new girl around? Any volunteers?'
I put my hand up and Warren shouted, 'SHE VOLUNTEERS AS TRIBUTE!'Sometimes I wonder if there is something wrong with him.
Something awfully, awfully wrong with him.
I now make my way to the Souths entrance where the girl is. I am wearing blue jeans, a white, button-up shirt with shirt, puffy sleeves and a button-up vest and slip ons. I also wear gloves, because lately, everything I have touched burst into flames. Not harming it, but being on fire for a few days is kinda annoying, so I wear gloves.
I hold a blue, plastic folder and I press it to my chest, and I play with that necklace with my free hand.
A rectangular, silver locked with engravings of spiders on the front. I rub my thumb over it and sigh when I feel the engravings.
What is it though? Maybe it's a weapon of mass destruction?
Only you would think that Fate.
I turn down the hall and I spot the new girl I 'volunteered as tribute' for.She's...strange.
She has green hair. Not like Finley's though; hers is a little lighter. A quarter of it is shaved off and the rest is combed over to the side. It reminds me of that girl from the movie Mockingjay Part 1, but this girls hair is wavier and she doesn't have a tattoo on the bald patch. She wears a baseball cap with...fake blood splatters on it, a plain white shirt with a denim vest and jeans with big, black boots. She has light, but bright blue eyes and they almost look like their glowing. She smiles when she sees me and she slightly waves. I smile back.
"So...you're the new exchange student then?" I ask.
She nods.
"From Callenda High."
I have never heard of that place.
"Great" I say, "So what is your name?"
"My name is Joanna, but people call me Joe."
I smile, nod and I start the tour of the school. I take her to the cafeteria on the Good side and I show her the line and I tell her how things work. Then I show her the stables and where the office is.
"What's with all the construction?" she asks as we past some Rock-Movers rebuilding a totally destroyed wall.
"Oh...bad weather" I say.
She looks at me like she doesn't believe me but she doesn't say anything. She's my height, a little taller.
I must be getting shorter and shorter by the week.
She has a slim, but strong build and she hosts scars on her knuckles and arms. She looks almost...wise. She's in my class for next year so I have to show her around. She keeps biting her lip and I want to tell her to stop because it can give her a scar, but I don't since she looks like one of those girls that really don't care what they look like half the time. I'm taking her to the gym and the silence is hurting my ears.
"So Joe, have any family?" I ask.
Her eyes go dark for a second, like she's remembering something horrible, then she places a smile on her face. But I can tell it's forced.
"Yeah. My brother lives in the town not far from here; he's nineteen. My...my parents are away at some business thing."
She lied. I can tell she made the whole 'business' thing up. Why would she lie though? What is it with her parents?
"Oh cool, I have...I have a step sister..."--Well, she is technically my sister, apparently--"...and that's about it."
She looks at me quizzically.
"You have no family?"
I shake my head.
"Truth is, I hardly remember anything about my past. So if you ask me something about my primary school, I wouldn't know a thing."
"Really?"
I nod.
"I wish I was like you" she mutters, not meant to be heard.
Though I heard.
We get to her dorm and she whistles in awe.
"Damn, they really do 5-star here, don't they?"
I grin.
"You have your books and everything?" I ask.
She nods.
"Yeah, the head master has them. Who is the head master anyway? I don't know."
Yeah, who is the new headmaster?
"Er...can't remember."
She lifts both eyebrows.
"You don't know?"
I pat her shoulder. "You will know one day."
She looks at me confused, so I just smile, wave, and walk out of the room and in to the hall.
I uncurl and curl my hands, feeling a strange tingling sensation in them.
Just pins and needles.
I turn the corner and at the very end of the hallway is Finley, standing there like he knows I am coming.
