Fate POV

I stand there, flowers in my hands as I look down at the coffin where her still body lays. I sniffle and Finley keeps saying his words, about Aurora.
"She was a friend when I had none" he says, his voice higher in pitch. "She was caring, and thoughtful, even though her childhood was horrific and terrible. She was the nicest person you would ever meet."
I close my eyes and I think about her. She had shown me to Finley, and she had helped me.
She was a friend.
Finley continues and I just look down at the mahogany coffin, white roses in my hands. The sword that ended her lies in the coffin beside her; and so does her shell bra, the thing she wore when I first met her.
The other monsters who lost their lives have already had their funerals. This is the last one; the one that really matters to me.
The rest of the people at the funeral all look to the ground. A few Mer's are here, obvious friends of Auroras.
I wear a black dress that ends at my feet and a sleeveless corset that straps up at the front with white laces.
"Please place your flowers" says Finley, concluding his speech.
One by one, people from the crowd come forward and place flowers on her coffin. Gavin comes out from the crowd and places a batch of rainbow roses on the coffin. His face is blank; unreadable. But, he looks at me and he slightly smiles and I slightly nod. He wears a black tux that I never knew he had.
I wait till everyone has finished before I step forward and place my white roses on the coffin. The rest of the flowers are bright colours, and I can't help but smile. My roses stand out because they are white and the rest are bright, like how Aurora was.

My roses reminded me of her.

I step back and then the funeral ends but food has been set out in the court yard so people will stay until the coffin is finally buried.
"Excuse me, are you Fate Bloodstone?"
I turn around and I face a beautiful woman. She looks in her forties and she has rainbow eyes and light brown hair. Her skin is tan but I immediately see her in this woman.
This has to be Auroras mother.
"Yes, I am" I say and slightly smile.
The lady nods and looks up at me, her eyes glittering slightly.
"Were you there when she died?" she asks me.
My lip trembles.
"Ye-Yes...I was."
"Do you know about what had happened to her? Before?"
I slowly nod.
I'm pretty sure she's talking about how Aurora was beaten as a child.
I shudder at the thought.
"You know who she was?" she asks.
"What do you mean?"
"Who she was?"
I blink a few times but I answer.
"Er, she's a quarter Angel and three quarters Mermaid. That's it."
The lady sighs with relief and she grasps my hand in hers and she slides something hard into my hand.
"Aurora was protecting this until she found the right person to give it to, but I think it belongs to you. Now you have to protect it until it finds another to give it to."
I look down at my hand and I open it and I see a silver, rectangular locket. I open up the locket and a black spider made out of a black jewel is embedded in inside. I run my thumb along it and the spider flashes blue and I almost drop the locket.
"Why did--"
I look up and I see that the mother is gone; like she was never there.
I look around and I don't see her, so she has definitely left.
"You okay?"
I turn around and I face Gavin. He doesn't look upset; he has that face of stone.
"Yeah" I say softly.
He sees the locket in my hands and he looks confused. I realise he isn't wearing the necklace that Ezra gave him.
Where is Ezra anyway?
"What's that?" he asks.
I shrug and I place it around my neck and it feels cool.
"Something special" I say.
I lift it up slightly and I see that there is small spiders engraved in the front of it.
"Hope it's not some sort of 'Gem of Death'" he sighs.
"Not of Death, but of Darkness" I say and I pause.
I have heard that before...
Gavin looks confused but he waves it off and walks off, saying a small bye to me.
I clutch the locket and I look up to the sky.
Is Aurora watching me? Can she see what is happening?
I look through the crowd and I spot Gavin talking to Tony who has attended. Gavin had felt something for her, so it must be hard for him to keep that emotionless face on.
"You seem cheery."
I turn and see Jasper standing there with a big grin on his face.
"Why are you smiling?" I ask.
You don't smile at a funeral.
He sighs.
"Because you are acting like it's the worst thing in the world."
I turn away from him.
"It is."
"You and I both know it's not."
I stiffen and I turn to face Jasper who is no longer smiling.
I clear my throat.
"Er, why did you come over to talk to me?" I ask him.
"I want you to forgive Scar."
I feel like I have been slapped in the face.
"W-Wha?"
"You heard me." He nods.
"I'm not mad" I retort.
"Fate, I know you are. Spending a few days with you in a house really helped me to get to know you."
I cringe.
"Yeah, I remember."
"Then just forgive her. There's nothing wrong with doing that."
I groan.
"Listen...I'm not angry--"
"Fine, you're mad. Better?"
I thought getting Jasper back would be better.
I was clearly wrong.
"I'm not mad, or angry, or upset."
Jasper nods and he rolls his eyes and I want to punch him in the face.
"Jasper" I spit. "I can stab you again if you want."
His eyes go dark.
"You can't joke about that."
I snort.
"Oh yeah? Watch me--"
"I don't remember you being like this before you met Finley. What did he do to you?"
What is he talking about?
"Hu?"
He sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose, like how Scar does it.
"Ever since Finley has gotten involved, you have been acting strange."
"Strange?"
"No, not strange. Different."
I own my mouth to say more but he is suddenly gone.
I groan to myself and I just stand there, looking at the ground.
Is he right?
"Hello."
I look up and I see a small girl. She looks around ten and she has a pretty face. Her eyes are a deep sea blue and he hair is black, straight and glossy.
"Hello" I say. "Who might you be?"
"The names Layla, but call me Lumina."
I slightly smile.
"Hello Lumina, I'm Fate."
She smiles and she then looks to the ground.
"Aurora has gone to heaven, hasn't she."
I clear my throat.
"Yeah, sure."
"Do you think she's watching us" she says and looks to the sky.
"I don't know" I sigh.
"She was a friend" she says sadly. "I used to visit her under water. She was...
...she was nice to me."
"I'm sorry" I say.
She looks to the ground, her eyes avoiding mine. For a minute, we stand there, silence hanging between us like a thick blanket. She then looks back to me and her sadness fades and she looks quizzical.
"What creature are you?" she asks.
"Er...W-Witch?" I say, unsure.
I don't think I should mention I'm a Powerist.
Her smile appears again and it makes me relax slightly.
"What are you?" I ask.
She beams and she turn and two big fairy wings spurt from her back. They are beautiful and they look like they are made out of glass, but they bend like paper in the breeze. They are a beautiful blue, the same as her eyes and a magenta pink.
I almost scowl.
Magenta.
"You like?" she asks.
I nod as she turns back around to face me.
"Yeah. their awesome. So you're a fairy?"
She nods, then shakes her head, then shrugs. "Well...half. I'm half human half fairy."
I smile. I haven't really heard of a 'half human' creature before. I always thought that creatures thought of themselves as the superior species and wouldn't dare mate with a human. It's like a wizard mating with a muggle.

Lucius Molfoy would not be happy.

"You're unique" I say.
She nods. "Yeah, but people call me infected."
"Why?"
"Because I'm part human, and apparently being human means you're infected."
I snort. "What? Are they all pure bloods?"
She smirks. "You like Harry Potter, don't you?"
"Really? Is it obvious?"
She nods and giggles and I feel a smile creeping onto my face.
I like Lumina. She's sweet and kind.
"Well, I have to go. Ta ta" she says and she skips away.
I look to the ground and I cant escape the smile that is now plastered onto my face.
Maybe she can make people feel happy, that's why I feel...well happy.
I wish she would stay around more often; I hope she's going to this school.

Oh, I won't be here when she starts.

Damn.

"Hey."
How many times am I going to hear that today?
I look up and I see Tony; he wears a black tux.
I didn't know he had one.
His green eyes bore into me and I sigh and I look away.
"Hey."
"You okay?"
Seriously. It's like everyone thinks that I am never okay. Never.
"Yeah."
I look back up to him and it realise his hair isn't black; it's brown. And his skin is midway--probably because he's part fire dancer.
"Tony" I say.
"Yeah?"
"Are you and Lilly a thing now?"
His face slightly reddens in embarrassment and he stutters.
"W-What? N-no what...er, what--"
I laugh.
"Tony. I get it. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
He sighs and I slightly pat his arm.
I hear a whirring sound and I freeze, thinking it's the raptor, but as I turn, I see it's a machine, lowering Aurora into her grave.
As she slowly disappears from view, I feel the tears coming back.
Good bye Aurora, I think. I hope I will see you one day.
Tony grabs my hand as I look at the grave, and he gives me a reassuring squeeze. I squeeze it back.
I grab the locket with my other hand and I grasp it, looking at the small spiders engraved on the front. I look to the grave as they finish covering it over with the soil.

I will protect this, I think. For you, Aurora.
