Minerva's thoughts returned to the present. She smiled at the thought of that. It must have been a fun first lesson for them, she thought.
Of course Dumbledore must have known it wasn't her, or maybe he was drowsy and had actually mistaken the cat for her.
And then there was once when he had actually gotten it right, on November 1st 1981, when she had been sitting in the wall outside Harry's uncle's house, waiting for Dumbledore. He had arrived and with one glance had recognized it was her. He'd said it was her sitting stubbornly, but she had been sitting on the wall the whole day and it was hard to be otherwise. She drove her thoughts back to the paperwork, and dipped her quill into some ink. But right at that moment there was a knock on the door and Dumbledore entered.
"Ah hello Minerva, sorry to disturb you, I just wanted to ask, had you sent the letter back to Lucius Malfoy?" He asked calmly.
"Yes Albus I had," she replied.
"Ah well, he's gone to the board of governors with it and they just sent me a letter, but oh well I'll just smooth the thing out. I believe Draco had attacked too, and Harry had received detention. I'd just finished answering Cornelius's letters about Harry participating," Dumbledore said.
"Ah, I still think he shouldn't participate. I'm nearly done with this, I was just thinking of the times when you had pretended random cats were me," Minerva said.
"Ah, honestly Minerva it's hard to distinguish between you and other cats," Dumbledore answered, with a snigger.
Minerva snorted and set off to work, and Dumbledore crossed back over to the door and stepped out of the door, smiling.
