Mortals Meet The Demigods

Kate Copper - Rachel Dare+Grover Underwood

Okay, so this one is kinda wonky. I'm making it Grover and Rachel looking for demigods. So... it's not like the other ones. Hope you like it!

Kate Copper:

Hi! My name is Kate Copper and I am certainly not the coolest girl in school. I am a total nerd with boring grey eyes, straight dirty blonde hair, and glasses. Until recently, I was a total nobody with no friends.

Notice how I said recently. A few weeks ago, two people transferred to Hillside High School. Their names are Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Grover Underwood.

Rachel goes by RED which suits her with her curly, frizzy red hair, freckles, and green eyes. She is in all of the school's art programs and is always doodling on something, whether it is her notebook, test or on her pants.

Grover has curly brown hair, brown eyes and always wore a baseball cap that he never, under any circumstances, took off. I felt bad for him because he also had a walking disorder, so he had to use crutches.

Today, we were going on a field trip to an art museum and RED was psyched! She kept blabbering about what cool art we might see and her favorite materials to make art with and wondering what artist's work might be there and on and on.

When we got there, our teacher split us into groups. Luckily, RED, Grover and I were put together in group two. We were with a student teacher who seemed really excited to be here. "Hi guys! My name is Ms. Harrow and I am a student teacher! Some of you guys know me and some of you may not, but I used to work here so I know the way around!" I was happy to be in a group that was actually excited to be here.

I glanced around, taking in all of the art myself and not listening to the actual tour. I noticed RED doing the same thing, but Grover wasn't looking at the art, he was chewing on a can. As awesome as G-Man was, he was certainly a strange dude.

"...And over here we have a piece of art created by a now famous author!" RED, Grover, and my heads all snapped up along with the rest of the class. In english we had read a book written by her, her name was Sally Jackson!

Grover smiled at the piece and whispered something in RED's ear. They seemed to do that a lot and I sometimes had to wonder if they were secretly dating, but I highly doubted it. When RED heard, her eyes went wide with shock and then she started laughing. Weird!

"...'The Poker Player' is supposedly based on Sally's ex-husband Gabe Ugliano!" Ms. Harrow informed us. Grover and RED laughed harder and I was left wondering what was so funny about the very detailed piece of art.

"Next up is..." I wasn't paying attention because I saw a cool painting across the room. A pretty looking cheerleader stood next to it. I peeled off from the group to go look at it and maybe see if she knew anything about it.

"Excuse me? Would you happen to know anything about this painting?" I asked her.

She smiled at me and politely said, "Oh yes! And it is part of a set! The second one is in here!" She beckoned for me to follow her into another room that was empty. I looked around, but couldn't find the second painting.

I turned to face the cheerleader, but instead saw... SOME SORT OF MONSTER? It growled and was about to charge me. I followed my instinct and dove under a table with a sculpture on top. It knocked the table over and I got up and ran across the room.

I tried to scream for help, but nothing came out of my mouth. "Nobody can hear you, pathetic little half-blood!" The monster shrieked in its raspy voice.

"They don't have to! We're already here!" A familiar voice said. The monster and I both turned to see a smirking Rachel armed with five blue plastic hairbrushes. Rachel threw one that hit the monster's chest. It growled and started to chase her.

Meanwhile, Grover ran over, without crutches, and escorted me quickly outside. I looked through the glass window to see RED holding only two remaining hair brushes that were pointed at the monster's eyes. She threw them and as soon as they hit it's eyes, the thing exploded into golden dust.

That day I learned some shocking things. First, I was a demigod and most likely a daughter of Athena. Second, RED was an ancient oracle. And third, Grover was a Satyr which was a half-goat half-man mythical creature.  What a weird day!
