Interlocked Souls

I strained to open my heavy eyelids, the brightness of the room momentarily blinding me. After a few blinks, I adjusted to the light and finally managed to keep my eyes open. Frowning, I gazed at the white ceiling above me, and a prickling sensation at the back of my head caught my attention. Instinctively, I reached up to touch the bandage, groaning at the soreness. Despite the pain, I sat up abruptly, my eyes widening with realization.
"Sid, what are you doing? Lie down, man. You need to rest," Josh's concerned voice filled the room as he hurriedly got up from the couch and approached me.
Confusion filled my mind as I asked him, "What happened? How did I end up here?"
"I should be asking you that. Someone hit you on the head, and you passed out on the corniche. Luckily, your security personnel found you in time and brought you to the hospital. Your brother woke me up in the middle of the night and insisted that I come to the hospital. He wouldn't let me rest, bombarding me with phone calls every ten minutes, even though I assured him that you were fine and sedated, and would wake up soon. Now, tell me, what's going on? Who attacked you, and why were you on the corniche at that hour?" Josh inquired, his tone filled with exasperation.
I ignored his questions for a moment, my mind racing with worry. "What time is it? How long have I been asleep?" I interjected, seeking urgent answers.
"It's half past eleven, and you've been out for nearly 12 hours," he responded.
"Damn it! I have to go. I need to find her," I exclaimed, throwing off the bedsheet, my panic intensifying. I prayed that Aami was safe, the thought of her being harmed sending shivers down my spine. The chilling memory of that monster's cold gaze flashed before my eyes, and I clenched the bedsheet tightly, determination flooding my veins. Ignoring the pain in the back of my head, I attempted to rise from the bed, the urgency consuming me.
"What the hell is wrong with you? I said you need rest!" Josh shouted, attempting to push me back onto the bed.
"No! No! You don't understand, Josh. I have to go before it's too late. They'll kill her if I don't find her soon," I pleaded, my voice quivering with fear.
Struggling against his hold, I fought to free myself, but Josh remained steadfast. I shoved him away forcefully, desperation driving me. "I said let me go! Don't you get it?" I yelled at him, frustration and anger boiling within me. Glaring at my best friend, who now lay on the floor with a startled expression, I gritted my teeth and turned my gaze away, desperately trying to regain control. I closed my eyes tightly, attempting to steady my breath.
Struggling with a mixture of fear and tension, I battled against the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside me. Every passing second felt like a lifetime as my mind raced through the horrifying possibilities that awaited Aami. The image of her face, filled with terror and helplessness, haunted my thoughts, intensifying my desperation to find her.
The pain at the back of my head served as a constant reminder of the danger that lurked in the shadows. It throbbed with each heartbeat, echoing the urgency pulsating through my veins. Every fiber of my being screamed for action, for swift movement to ensure her safety.
Josh's voice, laced with concern and frustration, blended with the cacophony in my mind. I knew he cared about me, but in that moment, his words seemed distant and irrelevant. The weight of responsibility bore down on my shoulders, overriding any semblance of rest or respite. Aami's life was in jeopardy, and I couldn't afford to waste another precious second.
