Ever After

(3 years later)

I looked out of the window and saw the sky was tar dark, accompanied by the roar of thunder. The rain began as a gentle tapping on the window, gradually turning into a pitter-patter. People outside took cover, opening umbrellas as the clouds released their beads of water.

The combination of chilly weather and hot coffee always put me in a good mood. However, this rain had an even more relaxing effect on me, offering a sense of calm that I hadn't experienced in days. I didn't feel rushed for the clouds to vanish, instead, I savored the moment, cradling the coffee mug in my hands to feel its comforting warmth.

Today, my heart was filled with excitement, and a comfortable smile adorned my face. I couldn't help but bite my lips as I took out the postcard I had received in the morning.

The postcard displayed a picture of a girl wearing a floral print blue summer dress, her face partially obscured by a hat. The background revealed that the photo had been taken in Santorini, Greece, a breathtaking Cycladic island with its unique charm. The picture itself was impressive, with a calm sea and stunning sunset providing a vibrant energy to the blue and white buildings.

My attention was fixed solely on the girl in the photo. There was no name on the card, only a simple "Happy Birthday" message at the back with a smiley in the corner. Yet, I knew it was her.

For the past three years, we hadn't been in much contact. She didn't call or text, and I respected her need for space. However, after her graduation last year, I received an email from her, stating her plans to travel the world with her friends. That email became the catalyst for us to reconnect. I started sending her regular emails, sharing the little things happening in my life and inquiring about her travel destinations. Gradually, she started responding, and our communication rekindled.
