Nobody moved right after what Adrien said — especially those who were aware of Marinette's feelings for the guy.
Chloé was the first one to break the silence, spatting insults towards Kagami who didn't really show any signs that she was hurt. To her, the fact that Adrien's giving their relationship a shot means that she had already won.
Tikki secretly rushed out of Marinette's sling bag and flew towards Plagg who was hiding behind a bush, munching on a camembert.
"Hey there, sugarcubes!" Plagg said as soon as she saw Tikki in front of her.
Tikki glared. "Don't sugarcube me!" she said. "What is your owner doing?! He's totally losing his chance with Ladybug!"
Plagg shrugged, and resumed on munching his beloved camembert. When he finished it, he faced Tikki again and said,
"Maybe he doesn't like Ladybug anymore."
Tikki glared at him again. "That can't be! They're made for each other."
"Yeah, but they're both to stupid to realise that," Plagg deadpanned. "Sugarcubes, let's just let them be and —"
Tikki huffed and rushed back to Marinette's bag. Boys are stupid, she thought as soon as she saw how Marinette was fighting the urge to cry while listening to Adrien talking about Kagami in front of their friends.
And when they went home, Marinette cried all the tears she's been keeping to herself for the past days.
Poor her, Tikki thought to herself. She's crying about Chat Noir and Adrien who are actually the same person.
***
Marinette sneaked down to their kitchen by eleven, when she made sure that her parents are already sound asleep. She didn't want them to worry or freak out when they see her swollen eyes and red nose. She's lucky that she doesn't have school tomorrow.
Right after Marinette finished her dinner (which she barely did), she decided to back to her room. But she wasn't even able to make one step from the kitchen when she heard a scream from outside their window.
"Did you hear that, Tikki?" she whispered to Tikki who was floating just in front of her.
Tikki nodded. "I think someone needs your help. I know you're tired, Mari —"
"There's no time to rest," Marinette declared. "Tikki, spots on!"
Ladybug sneaked out as soon as she transformed. She opted for the window near the living room. As soon as was out, she followed where the scream was coming from.
She was panting when she reached the location. There, she saw Chat Noir fighting the villain already.
"He didn't even try to communicate with me," Ladybug mumbled to herself. But knowing that this is no time for her to feel down about the downfall of her relationship with Chat Noir, she immediately approached the villain.
The villain looks like a normal human-being — the only thing odd about it was her hair was made up of pink rubber snakes. And on its waist, a snake belt with a darker shade of pink was hanging. Ladybug immediately concluded that the akuma is there.
"How bad was the damage she caused already?" Ladybug asked, trying to sound casual but she was praying that Chat Noir would at least answer her.
He did, but he barely shoot her a glance. "Most of the people who were outside were already bitten by the snakes she was producing," Chat Noir answered, his voice serious. "Just help me fight her so we can get this over with."
Ladybug nodded, swallowing back the tears.
(A/N: The fight between them and the villain won't be detailed because it might make the book more lame than it already is lol)
They bought fought the villain — but this time, it's noticeable that there was a gap and tension between Chat Noir and Ladybug. The reporters who were filming what's happening could tell. Everyone was curious as to why the two — who used to be always side by side literally — was barely making interaction at all.
But what made them wonder more was when Chat Noir didn't even look back at Ladybug when she yelled for his name right after she collapsed on the ground, exhausted from fighting the villain who was now back to being a normal human-being.
"Are you okay, Ladybug?" Alya, who was quietly watching from the corner, approached her and ask.
Ladybug forced a smile. "Yes. Thank you for asking," she replied. ". . . But I'm about to transform back, so bug out!"
She tried to sound cheerful but she's about to cry on the inside.
