Message from Bill
For the most part, Wattpad has all but ignored the Poetry community. With the acquisition of Wattpad by Naver, in South Korea, which owns Webtoons, I can only imagine that the Poetry platform on Wattpad will only become significantly less important.
In the past I have attempted to talk to Wattpad about declaring the Poets Pub as the premiere Poetry site here, but they would not provide any support what so ever. Yet, at the same time, I was interviewed by Wattpad, at which time they wanted to know how I had made the Poets Pub such a success.
The future of the Poetry community here on Wattpad is at a definite crossroads and it seems that no matter which direction we go in, we will find a dead end.
If you are like me, then you do not want this to happen.
I have attempted to affiliate other Poetry site with the Pub, but the much smaller sites wanted to keep their own identity. I understand that, but I also understand that many of these smaller sites no longer exist.
The only way to ensure the future of Poetry, on Wattpad, is to have a united front and a unified voice.
With this in mind, I am making one last attempt to create a Poetry super site.
@PoetsOnWP is an attempt, once again, to create a site, not only for individual Poets, but for all Poetry sites to come together under one banner.
There are many advantages to having such a site.
For one, it will offer all Poets a larger audience for their own personal Poetry collections.
It will give all Poets a chance to see what sites are available to them, here on Wattpad.
It will allow the opportunity for cross site competitions, further uniting the Poetry community.
It will give all Poets a new source of information, support and inspiration.
It will give a strong voice in dealings with Wattpad.
It will allow the opportunity for a new set of Awards for Poets. Awards created by Poets, for Poets.
It will show that the Poetry community is indeed a family.
I have many plans for this new site, but before anything can happen, we have to quickly put together key people to manage and recruit.
I am asking all our Pubbers to support this new site and follow @PoetsOnWP . It would benefit the site if our Pubbers could give a shout out to the new site.
I am also looking for interested Poets, who will help recruit new members, by looking around Wattpad and finding these smaller Poetry sites and getting them to come on board.
As the site grows, more ideas will come into play and once we have a committee formed, from a member from each Poetry site and influential Poets, we will have a strong enough voice to once again approach Wattpad.
