By The River
By lyttlejoe

I first glimpsed her by the river
causing heart and mind to quiver;
such an image I had never held before.
Swan's grace and regal bearing
in the golden sunlight wearing but a smile,
and my unsuspecting heart's defenses tore.

I hastened to her company
with a hope of introduction
but the method and the words were choked with fear.
How does one approach an angel
with intention to exchange, well...
the first thing one must do is to get near.

She continued right on walking
unperturbed, without a care,
dainty feet creating indents on the shore.
The smile remained complacent,
as made myself adjacent, and I prayed
my presence she would not ignore.
