A Message from Bill
As Wattpad continues to change and take itself into a different direction, it has become clear to me that one this is evident. The days of Poetry and the Poet are fast coming to an end on Wattpad.
I am not saying that Wattpad will get rid of us Poets or ban Poetry from the site, but it has become painfully obvious that Wattpad's interest in Poetry is at an all time low and their direction seems to be set more on the profitable Novel market.
So, where does that leave the Poets of Wattpad?
I believe now, more than ever it is important to have sites within Wattpad, like the Poets Pub. We are like the oasis in the middle of a desert of novels, novellas, fan fiction and screen plays. I believe that especially the Poets Pub, needs to be stronger now than it ever has been.
So that begs the question ... "Why is interest in the Pub at an all time low?"
I know people have become occupied with other things, because of the catastrophic effect of Covid-19, but I believe that when we are at our most stressed emotional plateau, that we need the sanctuary of a place like the Pub. Like the famous "Cheers" Pub, it is a place where everybody knows your name and everybody is certainly welcome.
As the Pub nears its 6th anniversary, I believe it is time for a resurgence. I believe it is time that we do our best to bring as many Poets into this Xanadu as possible and I believe that it is VERY important that we promote the Poets Pub, not only by personal appeals, but by being a dedicated participant in the Pub itself.
Be a part of the challenges and prompts, but also spread the word about the Pub and lets get more people involved in the Pub itself. MystresMyna and I (especially Myna) do our best to keep the Pub fresh and interesting, but it can often be a daunting challenge and we could use the help, to ensure that the Pub does not become outdated.
There are dozens of smaller Poetry sites on Wattpad and I believe now, as I have always believed, that the survival of Poetry on Wattpad can only be achieved by a unification of these sites under one banner, or an association between all the sites, which will offer a better opportunity for challenges and cross site participation and exposure. It is a monumental task that cannot be done by just two people. Its need the participation of many more. Especially those dedicated and celebrated Poets that still visit the Pub.
