Chapter 7: Happy Lee

The rest of the week was relatively uneventful. I spent the days in school as I normally did: take notes, stay under everyone’s radars, hang out with Alex, and record music. Although, there was a new part of it all, because all of a sudden, I found myself hanging out with Halley. Turns out she’s a lot of fun once she gets more comfortable around you. I think if there wasn’t the whole “best friend’s little sister” thing, I’d even say I had a crush on her. Man, I hope Alex never hears that.

Anyway, I’d been working on more solo stuff, as well as trying (in vain) to write lyrics to this one song I wrote some while back. I’ve been playing with the idea for ages, but I can’t get it to work for me. I decided to put a message up on Note-orious, a website I use when I’m writing music. I hope someone who can sing will be willing to help out, because I’m getting pretty desperate. It’s a kind of Dire Straits-y song that I wrote called On The Line.

I took my eyes off the screen for a second to see Halley furiously typing something out. All of a sudden, I saw that VoicedPages109, a user I remember commenting on some of my songs before, commented on the song.

VoicedPages109: I love your music, especially this song! It reminds me of Dire Straits, one of my favorite bands :).

Man, this person caught the influence. I wonder if that’s good or bad. Either way, I replied:

CharQuincyAdams: Thanks! I’m considering adding lyrics to it, too. Problem is, I can’t write lyrics to save my life, and I have a voice so bad... well, let’s just say it’s horrible and leave it at that :)

VoicedPages109:Actually, I write lyrics. You can check some of the works I’ve posted

CharQuincyAdams: No way! I’ve got to check them out, then :D By the way, I saw a comment of yours before, and the truth is. it kinda kept me going, musically. Thanks so much. It really means lots to me.

VoicedPages109: You’re welcome :)

I checked this girl’s lyrics(at least, girl according to her profile), and man-oh-man were they good. Good in a way that I could only dream of. Good in a way that she should be a pro. Good in a way... look, they were good, okay?

I checked on Halley again, and she was grinning up to her ears. “Why so happy, Lee?” I don’t know why I called her Lee all of a sudden, but it seemed right.

“Lee? Isn’t that a side of a mountain?” She stuck her tongue out at me. She seems to like doing that.

“Nah, I think that’s your nickname now. It seems right. Lee”

“Mmmmmm kk. No reason.”

“For the biggest grin ever? Yeah right. What are you looking at over there?”

She’s so much more open around me now. That makes me oddly happy, like I somehow managed to get through to her.

“Nothing.” she looked embarrassed. Man, I sure messed that up. But what was making her so damned happy? I’ve gotta know.
