Clarke POV
Octavia jumped out of the car, threw her hands in the air, and screamed, "We're here, bitches!"
It was kind of relief to be away from campus and at the family beach house. I loved New Haven U, but the stress from class, Finn, and everything else was really getting to me. I figured a long weekend away might help me clear my mind.
I'd texted Lexa and asked her to join, but she said she had to work all weekend and had a lot of assignments to get done as well. We agreed to meet up for coffee on Monday and, while I didn't want to waste the weekend missing Lexa, I was already starting to miss her the minute we pulled into the circle drive.
After we unloaded all our stuff, we enjoyed a full day of playing pool in the basement, watching movies, and attempting to cook shrimp Alfredo, which didn't turn out as badly as Bellamy thought it would. Jasper spent most of the day trying to stay as close as he possibly could to Raven. He tried "teaching" her how to do a pool shot, and sat next to her at dinner.
After dinner, we decided to head out to the deck and hang out around the fire pit for a while.
The air had turn colder the last hour, dropping from the 40s into the low 30s, but we were all bundled up and the fire was warm enough to make the evening outside kind of relaxing.
Octavia and Lincoln both said they smelled snow, to which Bellamy argued, "You can't smell snow."
"I just did," Octavia retorted. "Explain that."
Around eight, the temperature dropped again. Jasper and Bellamy went in search of more firewood around the wooded part of the property, leaving Octavia and Lincoln cuddled up across from me and Raven.
As soon as Jasper had gotten far enough away, I glanced over at Raven with a sneaky grin on my face.
She immediately let out an embarrassed, nasally chuckle. "What?" she moaned.
"Nothing," I snickered. "Just, uh, can I be the maid of honor?"
"Shut up," she punched my arm with her gloved hand.
I held my shoulder pretending like it hurt. "Touchy subject, I see."
"There's no subject to touch. Me and Jasper—no. That's never going to happen."
"Oh, come on. You mean to tell me you guys haven't—"
"—fucked? Not in this lifetime or the next."
"Oh, God. You're going to break his heart," I whined. "Did you see how he followed you around like a little puppy dog tonight?"
"Trust me, Clarke. I'm well aware. He's been in love with me since we were, like, fourteen. I just don't think I could look at him that way, you know?
I had assumed up until now that Raven liked the attention from Jasper. I'd assumed she liked Jasper in general, as more than a friend. She'd never indicated otherwise until now. I was a little surprised because she and Jasper spent so much time together and she seemed to be into it. I guess I read her wrong.
"What about you and Lexa?" she cleverly changed the subject.
"What about us?"
"Are you guys fucking yet?" she raised her eyebrows, and kicked our boots together.
"Stop," I giggled. "Not yet. She said she wanted to take things slow, but she's been really evasive lately."
"Maybe she's playing hard to get."
"Maybe," I said, glancing around.
I looked out toward the beach, then behind me, then over by the woods beside the house where Bellamy and Jasper were. I'd been paranoid all night, watching and waiting for anything strange to happen...waiting for Finn to show up.
