Octavia went over to the window and peeked through the wood blinds. Lincoln joined her, checking multiple windows on different sides of the living room and kitchen.

The whistling was so loud it even woke Jasper out of his deep slumber. Bellamy put his phone down and looked at Jasper nervously. I noticed the exchange and starting putting two and two together.

"You guys heard this before, didn't you?" I directed the question toward both Bellamy and Jasper.

Jasper sighed. "We heard it when we went to get the firewood."

"Why didn't you say anything?" I asked, angrily, sliding to the edge of the couch.

"We didn't want to worry you, Clarke," Bellamy calmed. "We were hoping it was nothing."

"Clearly, it's something," Octavia barked, seemingly just as pissed as I was that Bellamy and Jasper hadn't mentioned the strange sound earlier.

Jasper began, "I'm sure it's just—" and suddenly everything went dark.

The power cut off and everyone started freaking out.

"Guys, guys," I yelled, "calm down. It's probably just the storm. It's been snowing for a couple hours now."

"I'm not taking any chances," Octavia called, heading toward a closet by the front door. She emerged a few moments later with two large rifles and several flashlights.

"What's up, Wyatt Earp," Jasper joked.

Octavia handed one of the guns to Bellamy and kept the other for herself. "They're just BB guns," she explained, pulling on her Northface coat and fur boots, "but an intruder won't know that. Bell, go secure the rest of house then head down to the basement and check the fusebox. See if you can get the power back on. If not, there's always the back-up generator. Raven, you stay with Clarke. I'm going outside to check the perimeter."

"Not alone, you're not," Lincoln scoffed, getting his coat on too. "I'm going with you."

"I can take care of myself," Octavia snapped.

"Damn, O," Raven chuckled. "Since when did you get all Red Queen?"

"Studying law changes a person," she puffed, zipping up her coat. "I've become much more serious and outspoken. Lincoln, let's go."

While Octavia and Lincoln headed outside and Jasper guarded the door, Bellamy disappeared into the other side of the house. Raven stayed and guarded me like Octavia had "ordered," earning a goofy thumbs up from Jasper.

I latched onto Raven's arm and didn't let go. "You think it's him?" I asked, scanning the dark room and the coastline outside the window.

"Let's hope not," Raven replied. "Should we call your mom?"

"No. I don't want to freak her out over nothing. Let's at least wait until O and Lincoln come back."

"If  they come back."

"Rave!"

"Sorry. Just joking." She must have noticed the worried look on my face because she then asked, "You doing alright?"

"Yeah," I lied, realizing I was bouncing my leg pretty incessantly.

"Hey," she rested a hand on my knee to stop the movement. "I'm not going to anything happen to you. Got it?"

I shot her a quick, nervous glance and nodded before returning my gaze to the windows.

"Hey," she grabbed my chin firmly and made me look at her. "I mean it. You're safe here."
