"So, you're going with Fred?", Rachel said, stepping out of the changing room of Kimzey's Magical Dress Emporium. "No", I shook my head, "I'm going with George". Lacey let out a loud sigh, pulling at the frilly fabric in her hands, "This just doesn't look right". Hazel snorted, "Then try on another one". Lacey moved back into the changing room in a flurry of lace and bows.

Rachel looked at herself in the mirror, trying to figure out if she liked the red dress that was clinging to her figure. "Honesty, Sawyer I can't keep up", she sighed. Hazel was trying on cute form fitting suits, the one she currently had one was a dark navy blue. She messed with the collar, "Fred and Sawyer are both to stupid to admit they like each other so he accidentally asked someone else". Rachel laughed.

I narrowed my eyes, "Well it doesn't matter now because I'm going with George. It was actually very sweet, he's doing me a favor so I don't have to go alone". Lacey burst out of the dressing room, almost in tears. "I can't find anything that looks good on me!", she whined, "Lee's not want to go with me anymore if I don't look pretty". Hazel and I exchanged a look. Rachel hurried away with her to look for more dresses.

"I think that's the one, you look really good", I grinned. Hazel nodded, "Me, too. And it will match Celeste's dress". My mouth fell open, "You finally asked her?". A glint came into her eyes, "She actually asked me". I let out a laugh, "Good for her". Hazel shook her head, "I still can't believe Roger got Fleur to go with him". I nodded, "He must have slipped her a love potion".

I watched a group of girls walk past through the window, handfuls of candy from Honeydukes clutched in their mittened hands. Their breath curled in the air. I wondered what dress Angelina would be wearing. Would Fred try to match it? "Why haven't you tried on anything yet?", Hazel said, and I realized she had changed back into her regular clothes.

"Oh, I'm not sure", I shrugged, "I don't really know how to do this". It was true. I never really went shopping much, let alone for a ball gown. "You just look around and if you see something you like, you try it on". I sighed, standing. My eyes scanned the seemingly endless rows of dresses. Tape measures floated through the air, tule seeming to hang from every surface.

I ran my fingers across a form fitting black dress, liking it but not loving it. Then, my eyes fell upon it. It was silk, and so silver that it seemed to be made of the stars. It fell off the shoulder and hugged into the waist, flowing out in a long and full skirt. I reached up and carefully pulled it down. It was my size. The fabric was soft in my hand. I smiled. Walking right over to the counter, I placed it down.

The rosy faced woman smiled at me. "Are you sure you don't want to try it on, love?". I shook my head, "No, this is the one". She smiled, ringing it up. Overall, it was a pretty great day. When we got back to the dormitory, we all tried on our outfits for each other. Mine fit perfectly, as I suspected it would. My eyes shone with excitement, the girls oohing and awing.

Lacey had decided on a tight blush pink dress, it made her curves look extra good. Lee would certainly not regret asking her to the ball. Rachel had decided on a burgundy dress with long sleeves, making her look elegant. The Durmstrang boy that had asked her would also be very happy.

Hazel, of course, looked amazing in the suit she had picked out. Because they were dress robes, a small cape attached to the shoulders, flowing down to the ground. She had also picked out a pair of heels. It was exciting to see everyone so dressed up, and I knew the day of the Yule Ball, it would be even better.

I finally felt like being social was beginning to be something important for me. It was weird, but it was nice. School had always been just that for me, school. My classes, my grades, eventually becoming prefect. But something about this year was just different. It just felt like the beginning of something.

We all changed out of our dress robes and into pajamas. As I rifled through my trunk, my hand fell on Fred's sweater. My fingers closed around it for a moment, then I dropped it. No, I couldn't put it on, as much as I wanted to. I grabbed my Ravenclaw one instead and a pair of flannel pants. We sat on our beds, laughing and giggling.

Lacey went on and on about how cute Lee was and how she was sure to be his girlfriend by the end of the week. Hazel talked about her newest inspiration for a painting. Rachel told us about her older sister who had written to her. I shared my thoughts about the school year so far, and how I was glad that I was feeling so much closer to all of them. All was well.
