Dreamers

Last night I thought I knew you and now you're a stranger.

I can remember your warmth and cadence of laughter

But as I open my eyes your face escapes like never after.

I grasp at beads of memories as I search for answers

Each spilling to the ground through my hands as they shatter.

Then I remember—that within the loneliness is a thereafter

So I close my eyes and search for you within the hereafter.
