The Don/The boss : The undisputed leader of the mafia crime family.
Consigliere : The adviser and counselor to the boss. He is a trusted friend and confidant person, usually considered the No. 3 man in the family.
Underboss : Powerful second-in-command. Usually a family member takes up this position like the elder son. They are groomed to take up the position one day, after the boss steps down.
Capos : Their ranking is made members of the mafia crime family. They are the captains who train and lead a crew of soldiers.
Soldiers : 'Made men'- the lowest members of the mafia crime family. But they still command respect. To become Made, soldiers are required to take an oath of silence, called Omerta. In some families, another requirement is that the candidate commit murder in order to obtain Made men position.
Associates : Crew members who are still in line to become Made men but still aren't. They are under soldiers watch and work with them.
