The Gaiters – Part 2

Melina’s father didn’t care about Alice, he just saw her as a horse that could easily be replaced and not as his daughter’s mentor. Though he was unaware that Alice was telling his daughter all about The Gaiters and their powers, he was however, aware of the death of his daughter’s favorite mare; finding her crying by the stables. But it wasn’t like him to care about it; he wouldn’t care even if most of his horses were dead.

A WEAK LATER ~

“Melina wake up!” Shouted a voice into Melina’s dreaming state.

The only thing that could be heard was a soft groan, the solitary answer Melina was capable of showing that she was sleeping.

“Melina…Come to the stables right now! Someone wants to see you!” shouted the voice again.

“Pf…later…” Melina groaned.

“Not later, NOW!” the voice yelled loudly.

“Ah! Who the hell wants to see me?” she asked angrily, annoyed that someone woke her up. “And who are you anyway?” she added, still groggy.

“It’s Lilia, stupid! Now get your butt off the bed and come to stables right now!” said Lilia, pretending to be angry.

“Oh…I’m coming, I’m coming!” Melina said stifling a yawn, as she slowly got up.

“Take your time, we’re only all waiting for you,” Lilia shouted again, but it had a hint of excitement about it.

“Who are “all”? Melina asked, but the answer didn’t come.

Groaning and murmuring under her breath, Melina wore a robe over her dress and went to the stables barefoot.  Seeing that the door of the stables was locked she had to search for the key a long time, before she could get into the stables. Entering into the stables, she noticed that everything was dark; she couldn’t even see her nose.

“Hello? Is anyone here?” She asked.

“Welcome mistress,” an unfamiliar voice spoke into her head.

“Who is it? Who are you?” Melina asked, as she found the lights to the stables. Melina saw that she was standing in a circle of horses. Familiar horses that belonged to her dad as well as other horses she couldn’t recollect. Strangely enough, they were all ‘sitting’ on the ground around her. “What is happening here?” she said

“Don’t worry mistress; we are here to help you.” Said this unfamiliar voice again as a brown horse came forward and ‘knelt’ in front of her.

“I’m Kola, the Chief of the Horses.”

“There is a Chief of the Horses?”

“Aye mistress. And out of all the horses on this planet, I am your slave too,” said Kola quietly.

“First of all, don’t call yourself a ‘slave,’ I feel kinda guilty. Secondly, I am really happy to meet you, but I cannot understand why you came here! And all these horses… How could you fit in the stables?”

Kola laughed lightly. “It was quite easy to fit in these nice stables. Though I can understand that this may look a little strange, but I can assure you that we are not going to stay for long. We came here to warn you.”

“To warn me? ‘Bout what?” asked Melina.

“Our enemies are coming to misuse the Gate and you have to warn the other Gaiters. They will be here by the end of July.” Answered Kola, standing then began to head towards the doors of the stables.

“Wait, what? How…how do you know that?” Melina asked horrified.

“Horses know things that the others do not. Our ‘spies’ had reported that our enemies are gathering their forces and we thought that we should inform you, mistress” said Kola.

“Well…Thank you for informing me,’ Melina said, hugging Kola. ‘I will go and inform the other Gaiters tomorrow morning. Thank you! Thank you!”

“Mistress it is our pleasure to do whatever we can for you. Never have we met such a nice mistress before. We are happy that we serve you. Whenever you want our help, call us and we will be there.” Kola told her then headed to the door. Saying their farewells as they passed Melina, the other unfamiliar horses followed him out.

“I will see you again my loved-ones!” cried Melina. Now alone she sat on the ground and looked at her friends, all looking expectantly at her.

“What am I going to do?” murmured Melina.

“You will know what to do when the time comes,” Lilia replied.

“Yeah, you are right,” Melina smiled. “I will go to sleep now. It is going to be a big day tomorrow.” Groaning, Melina went to bed and dreamed herself flying with wings on her back with a sword clutched in her hand; leading hundreds of horses to face some creatures that were so awful, she couldn’t describe them with words.
