salvation

I throw the stones under my feet
into heaven's wide open chest;
Tossing my thoughts to its stream,
I can feel the currents break.

Waves violent against my skin
the friction burning my sail,
even when my ship sunk in surrender,
I believed I have the right to be here.

Searching for a reason to stay afloat,
a surge of memory bathed my body:
another after another in a heartbeat
like ripples of raindrops in the sea.

Last year was already a day ago -
the flight of time never delayed
yes, I am still here in the same waters,
barely making it through.

In the wide horizon I stared longer
as the sun sits on its center
Today more than ever I felt it:
every breath is an answered prayer.

//I wrote this poem during new year's eve of 2021. 2020 was really a different battle for everyone of us in one way or another. I hope we always find it in us to believe that our every breath is an answered prayer.//
