Homecoming

"So," Saemi tries to sink in her brother's words, "I'm getting married to Donghyuck."

"He calls himself Haechan now, but yes." Doyoung nods.

"No joke?"

"Why do you think you're wearing that ring?"

"I don't know, maybe I liked wearing rings." Saemi sighs, a little exasperated. "I love A Yeong halmeoni's ring, remember?"

"Right-well-sadly, that's what he got you."

"He chose this?"

Saemi looks at the ring around her finger, almost distastefully.

She didn't know that after ten years, Haechan's taste would be so terrible. Or maybe he got someone else to choose for him, considering what she just learned about their relationship with each other. Nevertheless, she's very unimpressed with it.

She lets go of his rudeness towards her back at the hospital. It's been weeks already, anyway. She's back at their mansion now, albeit still recovering.

She also hasn't told anyone about it because so far, Haechan hasn't done anything similarly rude to her. But that's only because they haven't seen each other since that day.

After Doyoung summarizes the happenings in the last ten years leading up to her accident, they both sigh heavily.

"Wow, um... my life sounds so... stressful." Saemi comments, staring blankly towards the large television screen in front of them.

"Well, you don't exactly remember most of it, so I guess that makes it less stressful." Doyoung remarks.

"I guess so."

They both stare ahead, not really watching. After a while, Doyoung speaks again.

"I'm sorry, by the way."

"Hm?"

"I'm sorry that I didn't go to your show that day." He apologizes. "If I did, maybe you would've forgotten about your car in the parking lot because Mr. Yeon would've picked us up. And forgetting your car would be a problem for you, but at least that would've been the only thing you've forgotten."

His eyes look down, his tone sad.

Saemi doesn't remember seeing her brother like this. She remembers being close with him back when they were kids. But it's been years already and just her luck, she doesn't feel that closeness with him anymore.

She doesn't know why he's apologizing for missing her show. She doesn't know why he missed it in the first place.

"Oppa?"

"Yep?"

"Did we grow up close?"

Doyoung shakes his head. This is no time to lie to his sister.

"No, not really."

"Hm," she hums in response. "Figures."

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing. I just... felt that we don't seem that close anymore."

"Oh."

"It's okay. I hope you don't pretend to be nicer or act too careful around me just because I had an accident and lost my memories. I just want you to treat me how you normally would. That way, maybe I can recover my memories faster."

Doyoung looks at her for a minute, then gives her a soft smile.

"Of course."

Saemi smiles back the same way, then makes her way to her bedroom.
