〖 Graduation Day 〗
"Ma'am, we're here now."
"Ma'am, we're here at your destination."
"Ma'am, are you okay?"
Saemi flinches when she hears the loud voice. She blinks her eyes several times, staring at the owner of the voice. She doesn't notice that she's been spacing out, and the cab driver has been calling her.
"I'm sorry. Here." She pays the driver and proceeds to exit the vehicle, thanking him.
The sun beams above her despite the coldness that autumn brings, she has to shield her eyes from the brightness. She dismisses it, however, and proceeds to walk.
She saunters towards the restaurant where she and Jaehyun are supposed to meet, but she feels nervous.
Today is the day, she will break up with him.
She knows the day is way too good for doing such a cruel thing. The sun is high up and tiny clouds are hovering above the city of Osaka. But she doesn't want to let Jaehyun suffer anymore.
She's aware that he notices her recent behavior, and she has no excuse for it. She knows it's unfair if she continues their relationship when all she can think about is her ex-fiancé. She thinks it would be better to deal with it herself without having to drag Jaehyun down with her.
So, right after her midterm exams for the last semester of senior year, she calls him and asks to meet with her.
Her nervousness amplifies the closer she gets to the restaurant, she feels her heart pounding in her chest. She's afraid that she will hurt Jaehyun, and she assumes this was how Haechan must've felt towards Yerim back then.
It makes sense to her now, and it makes her even more nervous.
As she walks, looking around the street, a florist shop catches her eyes. Or if she's being honest, it's the person inside the shop that caught it.
There, inside the glass walls, stands a man with long light brown hair by the counter. His back is turned, but she can't help see the similarity.
The way he stands and the way his hair is the same length and even the color, she freezes on her spot on the other side of the street. Her heart pounds harder when she can't move, but she waits for the man to turn around.
When he does, Saemi sighs in relief. The man pushes the glass doors and exits the florist shop with a bouquet of peach roses.
She closes her eyes momentarily and puts her right hand over her chest, feeling the beat of her heart. She wills it to calm down.
It's not Haechan, the man. It's just someone who looked like him from behind.
She recalls seeing a recent photo of him on one of his friends' social media. If she's not mistaken, it's Jaemin's. Or maybe Jeno's.
Haechan's hair had grown in the same length as the man in the shop, that's why she thought it was him. It was also the same color, a brown that are shades lighter than his previous darker one.
Although, she admits her ex-fiancé looks better, no offense to the man.
She relaxes on her spot, feeling a bit foolish for thinking it was him.
