Ok so quick note- I'm sorry if it seems like it's taking a while for the actual "Benny x y/n" part to come in, but I promise that's coming soon. Right now I'm just building up to it- if that makes sense. Thanks for reading my book! <3

Y/n's POV

Tessa and I walked down the side of the road, coming back from lunch at the diner. Tessa was talking about her crush, Michael. She finally had asked him out, and was re-telling, in full detail, how it went down. "...and then when he was signing it, I asked him about that new movie that came out, y'know "The Creation of the Humanoids?" Yeah well he mentioned how he wanted to see it so I said I would go with him-" (I looked up 1962 movies and that's just one that came up- it might not make complete sense 😅)

"Wait wait wait wait-" I cut her off. "But I agreed to see that with you?" She nodded, but replied, "I know- but you always eat all the popcorn." I scoffed. "Do not!" Before Tessa could say anything else, she tripped on a rock on the ground. She grabbed onto me for support, almost bringing me down with her. I grabbed her and pulled her up, and couldn't help but laugh. "Shut up-" she said, punching me in the shoulder.

"Alright alright- no need to get violent" I defended, raising my arms next to my head. "HEADS!!" We turned around to see a ball flying straight at us. I put my hands out in front of me, making sure the ball couldn't hit me or Tessa. It luckily hit my arm instead, and fell to the ground. "Sorry about that!" We looked up to see Kenny running at us, and all the other boys behind him turning to look in our direction.

"Don't worry 'bout it" I replied, taking the ball from the ground at throwing it towards him. He caught it swiftly, and apologized again. "We didn't see y'all over here..." for the next seconds we just stood there, not really doing anything. Finally Kenny spoke up again. "So uh...want some pop?"

.....

"Hamilton 'The Babe' Porter....Long Ball Porter...C'mon DeNunez!" Ham slowly raised his arm into the air, point towards the sky with the bat resting on his shoulder.

With this all the boys in the field burst out in a fit of laugher. Bertram pointed to the sky, mocking  Ham, and Kenny almost fell to the floor laughing. "Yeah ok. Yes, I see it." Benny laughed, hitting his glove with his fist. Kenny threw the ball towards Ham, but instead of hitting the ball Ham missed it, and it flew into Benny's hand.

"You call that pitching!?" Ham exclaimed over everyone's laughter.

"This is baseball, not tennis!"

"Give him a tennis racket!"

"Nah give me something to hit!"

Me and Tessa watched in amusement from the dugout, drinking our bottles of pop. "So this is what they do on a daily basis?" Tessa asked, mainly to herself. "Seems like it."

"Alright Ham, this is my heater! I dare you to hit it!" Kenny yelled. "You'll be sorry...." Ham mumbled, getting into position. You could hear the other boys continuously mocking him in the background, but Ham wasn't gonna give up that easy. As soon as the ball made contact with his bat, everyone stopped and watched as the ball flew above their heads and over the fence.

"Yeah! That's how ya do it" Ham said to himself, running around the bases as the kids chased him and threw their gloves at him. "Ham ya idiot, now we can't play no more!" Benny signed in frustration. Ham didn't seem to care though, he just kept running the bases. "Low and outside, just like I like it!" Were his exact words.

Away from all the ruckus, Smalls looked at the fence, then to his friends, and back to the fence. "Wait a sec, I'll get it!" He shouted, turning around and running towards the fence. "Ohhh boy" Tessa muttered next to me. I turned to her confused, but she just kept looking at the fence. As Smalls was about halfway up the fence, Squints saw what he was doing and started running at him, screaming. All the other boys saw it too, and quickly joined him. "NOOOOOOOOOOOO"

This really caught me off guard, and I looked over at Tessa who seemed to have a similar reaction. We followed behind the loud group, as they started all grabbing onto Smalls and dragged him off the fence. "Get off of me!" He shouted, as they finally released him. "Holy crap, you could've been killed!!" Squints shouted. "Yeah yeah truly, what are ya doing?!"

"Well you guys were all leaving, so I just thought I'd hop the fence-" Smalls was cut off by Squints once again. "If you were thinking you wouldn't have thought that." Smalls' confusion grew more visible as his friends scolded him. Me and Tessa stood off to the side, un sure of what to do. "You can't go back there Smalls." Benny said firmly. "Well then how do we get the ball back..?"

"We don't."

"We don't"

"It's history"

"It's history"

"Kiss it goodbye"

"Kiss it-"

"Shut up Tommy"

I looked at them in amusement. 'No wonder they call him Repeat'

"-games over man, we'll just get another ball tomorrow. We'll never see it again.." With that all the boys turned away and began walking back, towards the dugout. "Well why not?" Smalls asked. Slowly, all the boys turned back around. "The Beast." They said in unison. 'The what-?' Smalls must have read my mind then and there, cause the next thing that he said was-

"What's that?"  We both asked. Tessa turned to you in shock. "How do you not know about the beast?" I narrowed my eyes, and responded with "How do you know about the beast?" We stared at each other suspiciously. While I had heard people mentioning 'The Beast' before, I always just thought they had meant some movie. I mean, what else could it have been?

Benny sighed, and looked down at the ground for a moment, before looking back at us. "Smalls, Y/n, listen to me. Go to that fence...real slow. And be quiet." I turned to look at the fence, but didn't see anything that seemed "dangerous" "what the hell could be so dangerous about a fence?'

"But...I-I think-" Benny cut him off before he could continue, shaking his head. "No, no no. No no." They kept bickering back and forth, each trying to speak but the other kept cutting them off.  I sighed and starting making my way to the fence, Smalls nervously following behind. The others shushed us from behind, and I rolled my eyes. I spotted a hole towards the bottom of the fence, and leaned down to it. Smalls crouched next to me, making eye contact for a second, before turning back.

Through the hole was a baseball, sitting in the middle of what I'm assuming was a back yard. 'What the hell are they so nervous about- you could just reach in and grab-' out of literally nowhere, a giant paw reached out and snatched the ball from our view. Both Smalls and I jumped back surprised, and he started running back to the others while I backed away from the fence quickly. 'Was that a dog-?!'

"Something got the ball!" Smalls shouted, "w-what was that thing?" I kept quiet, trying to figure out what the heck that thing was. I turned around, towards the panicked boy. All the guys looked at eachother, before announcing, "Campout!"
