Y/n POV
The 4th of July, one of the biggest celebrations of the year, besides Christmas and New Years of course. (Or maybe just New Years if you don't celebrate Christmas) I was outside with my parents, putting all the food we just got down on the table. Normally I would be spending tonight with Tessa, but she and her family had gone out of town, so it was just me, my parents, and some family friends from around the neighborhood. To say I was bored, would be an understatement.
We hadn't gone to the sandlot today, and I just figured that it was cause everyone was gonna be spending the holiday with their families, but I hadn't seen any of them at the picnic yet. My parents and their friends were all chatting amongst themselves at the table, and I was about to sit down when I heard someone say my name.
I turned around and saw Benny and Smalls running towards me. "Hey, c'mon we're going to the sandlot." Benny said, gesturing for me to follow them. "Wait what-?" I was about to ask, before Smalls interrupted me. "It's a night game! C'mon" he said, gesturing behind him where I saw the rest of the boys waiting for us. I looked back to my parents, and saw my mom grinning at me along with some of her friends. My dad sighed and said "go" before waving me off.
I grinned at them, waving quickly before I felt someone take my hand, again, and drag me with them. It was Benny. I ran beside him, still holding his hand, and the rest of the boys started running in front of us towards the sandlot.
Once we finally reached the sandlot, we all spread out into different positions. This was one of the few times I had actually played with them in the past few weeks, and with the fireworks that were lighting up the sky, turning it into lots of different, bright colors, and giving us just enough light to let us play, I could tell that it might just be the best.
We played our best on these kinds of nights, because, I guess we all felt like the big leaguers- under the lights of some great stadium. Benny felt like that all the time. We all knew he was gonna go on to bigger and better games, because every time we stopped to watch the sky on those nights, like regular kids, he was there to call us back. You see- for us, baseball was a game. But for Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez, baseball was life.
"Okay, hit it!"
"Yeah yeah, come on Benny!"
Benny stood at homeplate, getting ready for the ball as Kenny flung the ball towards him. And in one swift move, he hit the ball, sending it up into the air where it got mixed with the sight of the fireworks that spread across the sky.
I watched in amazement from my place at 3rd base, watching the colorful sky above me. Benny dropped his bat and began running the bases, past all the boys that stood and watched in amazement at the view. It wasn't until he got close to 3rd when he started to slow down, and finally took a look at the sky. He stopped right next to me, and we both stood and watched the sky for a few moments.
"Nice hit." I said, never taking my eyes off the fireworks. Benny chuckled next to me. "Thanks." He said, starting to move again, only this time he grabbed my hand again briefly, causing me to look at him. He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to my forehead, staying there for another second before running off down to home plate.
My eyes widened in shock as I turned and watched him as he ran, the lights in the sky slightly lighting up my view. My look of shock turned into one of joy, as a big grin spread across my face and my cheeks flushed a light pink. 'You're gonna be the death of me, Benjamin Rodriguez'

Another day at the sandlot. I was out playing at 3rd base again, the same place where Benny had kissed me a few days ago. Well- it wasn't exactly a kiss, so I could I really call it that? Whatever. Me and Benny hadn't really talked about it, and it's safe to say our friendship hadn't changed in any way, in fact it's only really gotten stronger the more that we've hung out this summer.
