James woke up in his new room. He and his mother had just moved back to Los Angeles from London in England, a move he had to adjust to several years before. He picked up his glasses from his bedside table, and stood up to go do his daily routine.
After getting ready and putting on some clothes, James went downstairs where he found his mum making breakfast.
Eva: Good morning James, did you get a good night's sleep for your first day back at Atlas?
James: Yeah... I'm sorry it's just, why do I need to go back to Atlas? Just pick any other school I am begging you.
Eva: Why? Atlas Academy is one of the highest standard schools in the city, plus PRIDE are proud donors of that school.
James: Exactly, so much so, that 'all' PRIDE kids are there.
His mother turns to him with a disappointed expression.
Eva: So that's what this is about. *sigh* Honey just because you kids aren't still friends like you were back in the day, doesn't mean you should feel like you can't be near them.
James: I haven't sent any form communication since her funeral, I doubt they'll believe it's because I forgot to charge my phone for exactly 2 years.
Eva served up James' breakfast which he ate relatively fast.
Eva: I will be attending a PRIDE meeting at the Wilder residence tonight, so I will trust you to make plans for after school, ok?
James: You know for a charity organisation they're very tight with their schedules. I'm sure I'll find at least one way not to bore myself after school, you can trust me.
Eva: I know, I know. You're very responsible, I mean you're 17, where does the time go? I love you but you've got to leave now if you actually want to get their on time. Oh and also the same rules apply in this house as always, no going into your dad's lab because...
James: Because it's the only thing left of him and we need to preserve his memory, I know, I'll get going, love you.
With that James picked up his bag and went to drive to school in his car.

James walked around the school and down some stairs where he spotted Gert handing out flyers. He put his hood up hoping she wouldn't notice when he walked past but unfortunately...
Gert: Hold up is that... James Smythe?!
James turned around slowly taking down his hood and putting on a very obviously fake smile.
James: Gertrude, long time, no see.
Gertrude walks up to him and shoves his shoulder with a clearly unhappy expression.
Gert: 2 years with no calls, no texts, no nothing and all you have to say is "long time, no see" you are unbelievable.
James: Look, I don't know what you want me to say. I mean, I could say sorry or make up an excuse but that just wouldn't be right under this 'circumstance'.
Gert scoffed and then they just stood there awkwardly for a minute.
James: So did you do something with your hair it looks...
Gert interrupted him.
Gert: Please leave.
James: Yeah I did sense that I should leave.
He started walking away until he turned back around
James: Can I at least get a flyer?
Gert: No, you don't deserve a flyer.
