Winter stood in the middle of summer panting from the heat. Boxes upon boxes littered the front yard of the new Elowen home and by this point Winter was tired and ready to sleep on the hardwood floor in her new bedroom if it meant shed be able to take a break from the California sun. Beacon hills wasn't what she expected when her mother told her they'd be moving to the small town across the country for a teacher position at the local high school.

Winters mother, was a history curator at a museum in New York and her father a security guard. Her mother had been looking for a teaching position for years and when she found out about the opening it was hard to turn down and quickly had her family of three packing to move.

Brown hair was swiftly pulled into a bun as the girl braced herself to push forward. "I'm never moving again; I refuse to lug boxes back and forth for hours only to move them again because they were put in the wrong room." Winter spoke, complaining once again.

"You and me both kid, except I refuse to have to living with you mother and I all your life. I love you but you're going to have to move at least once more." Her father yelled as he walked up the stairs into the front door with heavy steps.

As the summer came to an end, winter stood at her front door contemplating her first day of school. Her hand griped the straps of her bag and with a heavy sigh she walked out the door. "First day of freshman year, everyone will be new... I'm sure you'll do great." She mumbled to herself as she approaches the car.

"Honey, you need to relax. Besides I'll be in the building so you can come find me anytime." Her mother spoke as she turned the key to start the engine.

"That's part of the problem."

After a few weeks the green eyed girl got a job at a local coffee shop, a regular that frequently came in the afternoon sparked a conversation.

"You go to Beacon Hills right; I'm Danny I think you're in one of my classes." A tan boy spoke.

"Yeah, I just moved here. I hope we can get along." Winter spoke with a simple smile.

"When do you get out of work, want to go to a party. It'll be a great way to make friends"

Reluctantly she agreed to go, being that she felt  the need to make friends, however, the only true friend she ended up making that night was the boy from the coffee shop along with a few acquaintances he was close to.

At the part the two spent the night having a lot of fun just messing around getting to know another. It was the beginning of a strong bond. Before they knew it, it had been a year and Winter had slowly made some friends aside from Danny. She would hang out with Lydia, Jackson and their friend group but it was different with Danny. He was her best friend, a sibling even.

Sophomore year was already around the corner and she couldn't have been happier that the Elowen family moved to this small peaceful town. Over the year, she found many things she loved. The small coffee place she worked at, the preserve she found herself hiking in every weekend, and the random clubs she and Danny would sneak into to have fun. Winter was happy in her small bubble; she had a friend she could rely on and even a slight crush on an awkward boy she'd never spoken to.

Winter was a quiet girl that kept to herself. She was alway envious of her peers that always seemed to have something to say. More often than not the green eyed girl lost her words when she needed them the most. However after she moved Winter was slowly moving on from her past of silence. She was still someone who disappeared easily in a crowed but she had friends who didn't mind that.

Lydia was a popular intelligent girl and even though Winter was almost her opposite the two got along well. Winter wasn't dumb by any means but because of her demeanor she would never willingly answer questions in class. The two didn't talk much but they considered another friends. Jackson, Lydia boyfriend and Danny's best friend was always kinda to her but never went out of his way to speak to her unless she was with one of the two.

One evening as the sun was setting, Winter ran down her stairs looking for a class book she needing for an assignment. After quickly realizing it was left at school the brunette refocused her attention on looking for her mother's car keys.

"Mom, I'm taking your car. I left a book I need for homework at school."

"Oh, can you run to my room and grab me the red folder on my desk while you're at it, I was going to get it in the morning but if you're heading over, it would be a big help." Her mother spoke from the other room.

"Yeah, sure thing!"

After a moment of driving Winter was headed to the school doors. Using her mother's pass to unlock the door she quickly made her way up stairs to her locker. As she was making her way to the classroom, an odd noise played over the speakers. "What the hell was that" she spoke softly aloud, feeling uncomfortable by the sound of a cat being choked played over the school's sound system. Winter picked up her pace. "let's just get out of here before something else goes off." Mumbling to herself.

Leaving the classroom with her mother's red folder and her Latin book in hand, Winter came to an abrupt halt when the speakers turned on once more, however, this time the noise was a loud roar which cause her to drop her mother's folder spilling the papers across the hallway.

"Fuck... no, no, no. dammit" Winter quickly dropped to her knees trying to collect all the papers. Unfortunately, her hands were now shaking with fear and her eyes began to blur with tears threatening to fall as she attempted to collect what she dropped.

"Let's just get out of here Winter, just two flights of stairs and a door right at the bottom and you'll have a home run to the car. You. Can. Do. This."

Just as Winter began her decent down, she was once again left frozen from fear as a loud bang from metal doors could be heard from beneath her. With slow cautious steps, Winter moved backwards up the stairs and to the hallway now breathing heavily with her back against the lockers. Gripping her items, she frantically ran down the hallway as she once again heard an unsettling sound of glass shattering.

Walking quickly, she begins looking for her cellphone, feeling her pockets in her jeans and her jacket when it occurred to her that she must've dropped it back in the hall on the other side of the building. "Hide or get your phone for help.... I got to get my phone" talking to herself she sighs carefully making a return.

After turning a corner, she stopped dropping her book and papers once more as she gazed upon the shadow of what appeared to be a man at the end of the hall. As he turned, red eyes flashed her way for a brief moment before the figure dropped to all fore's slowly creeping toward her.

At this moment Winter regained her ability to move and with one step back she pivoted quickly before breaking into a sprint. The Figure directly on her trail only took seconds to reach her.

Pulling her back by her ankle, her forehead slammed into the hallway floor before she could let out a sound. Barely able to keep her eyes open she rolled onto her back reached her arm forward toward the figure which now she could see was some animal. No, beast.

"Plea..." she managed to scratch out before her arm was grabbed throwing her into the lockers.
