I'm running through the woods dodging low-hanging branches and jumping over fallen trees. I can feel my wolf's excitement through our bond.
She loves the woods.
I laugh to myself when she lets out a howl and continues to sprint through the trees.
I vividly remember the first time I shifted at 16. The pain was like nothing I've ever felt before. I genuinely thought I was going to die. My dad tried his hardest to comfort me but there was nothing he could do. I just had to endure it.
Today, I can shift without feeling much pain at all. It's slightly uncomfortable, but it also feels natural and right.
I missed this feeling. I missed the breeze blowing through my fur and the sun beaming down on my face.
At this moment, everything feels right in the world.
I'd been running for about two hours when I decide to stop at a creek for some water right outside our land in neutral territory.
My wolf eagerly laps up the water before laying down to rest her legs. She shuts her eyes for a few peaceful moments of rest.
A twig snapping nearby catches my attention. I'm on my feet within seconds.
I hear movement to my left and direct my attention to it.
It's a wolf.
But not just any wolf.
An Alpha.
You can easily tell the difference between a normal wolf and an Alpha wolf. Alpha wolves are a lot bigger. They tower over a regular sized wolf. Their canines and claws are sharper as they are designed for defending their pack. They have a look in their eyes that normal wolves just don't seem to have. They're intimidating without even trying to be.
I closely watch the Alpha to try and anticipate his next move.
He watches me with close intensity. He sniffs the air like he's trying to catch my scent to see if I belong to a pack or if I'm a rogue.
Without warning, he steps one step closer to me and growls.
Shit.
He continues his slow pace toward me and with every step he makes my heart beats faster. I growl at him in warning to stay away. He might be an Alpha but I'm an Alpha's daughter. It's not in my nature to submit.
The closer he gets the better I can see his eyes. They are a light blue color that stands out against his midnight black fur.
It's then that I take notice of how beautiful he is. His wolf is truly something to marvel at.
Beautiful eyes, dark fur, strong legs, and long canines. He's menacingly handsome.
He stops advancing my way and decides to keep his distance. His next move both surprises and confuses me.
Instead of growling at me or trying to attack, he sits down on his back legs and purrs at me.
What the actual hell?
He shifts back into his human form and when I see who he actually is, I'm shocked but also pissed.
Mason Riddle.
You have got to be kidding me.
Mason and I have a long history that dates all the way back to kindergarten. The jerk would always single me out of everybody else in our class and constantly pick on me. He made my elementary and middle school years a living hell. He would do absolutely anything to get a rise out of me.
