You are all so amazing!
I love every single one of you and I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you!
Ok, enough of the lovey dovey stuff. Lets move on to Mason getting his ass kicked!
Lol jk...maybe....
Here ya go.
-------
The whole way home my anxiety kept conjuring up scenarios of how bad telling my father the truth would go.
Although somewhat different, each one ended with Mason and my father fighting to the death.
That's a little dramatic though, right?
As soon as we get back home I run Jamie a bath to get warm. His little body was shivering the whole trip back and I couldn't tell if it was because he was cold or frightened after being kidnapped.
Probably both.
After his bath I help him into his pajamas, and put him to bed.
He was so exhausted that he fell asleep within minutes cuddling his stuffed dinosaur.
Thank God we found him.
If something had happened to him, I truly don't know what I would've done.
I turn on his sound machine and shut his door. He does not need to wake up to the sound of the argument that's bound to occur when I walk down those stairs.
I slowly make my way downstairs where my father and Mason are currently waiting.
I make eye contact with Mason as soon as I walk in the room but I can't decipher the look in his eyes. It's unreadable which scares me.
"Okay someone needs to explain what's going on. Now." My dad demands.
"Paisley is my mate." Mason says while walking toward me. He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me into his chest.
"What? When did this happen?" My dad asks. He looks pissed which confuses me. I knew he wouldn't be thrilled when I found my mate, but I didn't think he'd be mad. I honestly thought he'd be excited for me.
"We just found out. I was going to tell you but then everything with Jamie happened." I explain.
My dad doesn't say anything. He just stares at us.
"Alpha Alarik I know this is probably shocking, but I promise to take care of her and protect her." Mason says and I swear my heart starts beating faster.
Even though I haven't really had time to process Mason being my mate, I know I can't be without him.
Childhood nemesis or not. He's still the person I'm destined to spend my life with.
Him and those big muscles. My wolf adds.
Down girl!
"Daddy please say something." I ask him after a few minutes. I can't handle his silence any longer.
"I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry." He surprises me by saying. My brows furrow in confusion.
What?
Why is he apologizing?
"What do you mean you're sorry?" Mason asks confused but there's an edge to his voice. He doesn't like what he's hearing.
"I'm saying sorry to my daughter because I refuse to let this happen. I've heard of your reputation with she-wolves Alpha Mason. My daughter deserves better than a man who couldn't even wait for his mate and fucks anything that moves." My dad snaps at Mason.
I feel my heart break at his harsh words and I look up at Mason with a face full of betrayal.
He didn't wait for me? He's mated with other she-wolves?
"Watch what you fucking say in front of my mate Alarik. Those are just rumors you've heard. There's not truth to any of them." Mason defends himself.
Relief rushes through me at his words. I hope he's telling the truth.
"I don't believe you Mason. But none of this matters anyways because I have already chosen a mate for Paisley." My dad informs us and I practically feel my eyes pop out of my skull.
"You what?" Mason roars. I don't think I've ever seen him so mad. If looks could kill, I wouldn't have a father anymore. My grip on Mason's arms tighten.
"You can't be serious." I tell my father. Surely this has to be some kind of a joke.
"I'm being serious Paisley." My dad says with no hint of emotion behind his eyes.
"Who?" I question him. I think my dad has officially lost him mind.
"Max Tanglewood."
You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Max Tanglewood.
Max Tanglewood is some lowlife, pervert who just happens to be the son of an Alpha my dad is allies with.
"Absolutely fucking not. Paisley belongs to me. She's my mate." Mason says venomously. He looks ready to kill and I can tell his control on his anger is slipping fast.
"She is my daughter!" My dad yells back. The fact that they're both speaking about me as if I'm not even here only adds to my anger.
"I can speak for myself!" I yell and the room grows quiet but the tension remains thick.
"Daddy, I will not mate with Max. I don't know why you felt the need to 'pick someone out for me' when you knew I had a mate out there but it doesn't matter because it isn't happening. Mason is my mate. End of discussion." I firmly state.
"You will do as you're told and mate with the wolf I've picked out for you. His pack is strong Paisley. He will be able to protect you." My father demands.
"It seems like the only thing Paisley needs protection from is you." Mason seethes through a clenched jaw. He pushes me behind of him and stands like a wall in front of me.
I'm truly at a loss for words. Who is this man standing before me because it certainly cannot be my father? My father would have never done this to me.
We all stand there glaring at each other in a bitter silence until there is a knock at the door and it opens.
"I guess she didn't take the news as well as we had hoped?" Max asks walking in with a shit eating grin on his face.
You've got to be kidding me.
