Ch. 4 ~Mystery's Letter~

On the same day Mystery dropped off the letter, Tanaka looked over the letter again to see who it was from. There was no name or anything. Just a plain red envelope addressed to the Phantomhive staff. Tanaka pondered about this, but then went to find the others.

“Oi, Mey-Rin,Finny! Where are those tomatoes from town?!” Bard shouted. “U-Uh right here, yes!” Mey-Rin answered as she grabbed a familiar basket filled with tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, and some bread. Bard started slicing the tomatoes and bread while Mey-Rin took care of the lettuce. Finny gazed at the basket with a frown.

He lifted up the empty basket as Bard and Mey-Rin looked back at him. “Mystery’s basket… I remember her carrying it with her every time she went out, yes” Mey-Rin said frowning as well. “I wonder why she didn’t take it with her? Just looking at it reminds me of Mystery. I wonder how she is, even Sebastian and the young master…” Finny said still holding the basket.

“Hey come on! I wouldn’t worry. We’ll see them again soon, maybe we might hear from one of them.” Bard assured them. They all stopped and turned when Tanaka entered the kitchen. “Tanaka?” Bard said. “What is it?” Finny asked as Mey-Rin had her hands balled on her chest, all with hope in their eyes. “I just received a letter. It doesn’t say who it was from, but it’s addressed to the staff of the Phantomhive family.” Tanaka said showing them the red letter.

“Who delivered the letter?” Bard asked. “I do not know. It was left on the doorstep.” Tanaka said. The three servants looked at each other and then at the letter. “So… Who’s going to read it then, yes?” Mey-Rin asked. Bard glanced at her then at Finny. Finny looked back at him then at Tanaka. Tanaka stared at the three of them. Mey-Rin did as well. While taking a breath in and letting it out, Finny held out his hand. “I’ll read it” he said.

Everyone gazed at him. Mey-Rin handed him the letter, Finny softly taking it. He looked down at the letter and slowly opened it. He began to read what it said out loud.

Dear Friends,

It’s been a while since we’ve seen you all. I’m doing alright as well as Sebastian and your young master. I miss you all and the young master misses you as well I can tell. Even Sebastian seems to miss helping you all doing your jobs.

I can’t explain why we can’t visit and I can’t tell you where we live, but you must trust me, it’s for a reason. I don’t have much to say, but take good care of our home. Keep doing your jobs happily. This won’t be the only letter you’ll receive from me, I promise. I hope you’re all well and I hope to hear from you soon.

“See? I knew we would hear from them!” Bard jollied and crossed his arms and nodding. The others smiled. “Oh I’m so glad Mystery wrote to us, yes!” Mey-Rin said excitedly. Tanaka smiled, “You three should reply back to her letter. But as soon as you’re done, you must continue working.” He said then left the kitchen.

“Ok so who’s going to write the letter?” Finny asked. “I shall do the honors-” Bard said snatching a piece of paper along with pulling out an ink pen. “After all, they’re still some things I wanna ask our Lil Red Riding Hood lass” Bard smiled goofily. “Like what?” Mey-Rin asked curiously. “Aw c’mon, really?! Remember Sebastian and Mystery being together? They must have done some things if you know what I mean, especially if we’re not around” Bard snickered as he smirked being perverted. Mey-Rin had a nosebleed and blushed. She had her hands cupped around her cheeks and smiled widely. “Ahh those two…” she said as she felt herself melt.

“Well, what if I want to write the letter” Finny said, dismissing the topic Bard and Mey-Rin were on. Bard shook his head hard. “Why should it be you then?” he asked, “You read Mystery’s letter!” Now Mey-Rin snapped out of her daydream. “Now hold on a minute! What about me, yes! That type of talk is for us girls! Besides, ever heard of ladies first?” Mey-Rin fired. Bard and Finny blinked.
