I made a new ref and I like it so much better than the old one
Update: There were some details an certain proportions that didn't feel right anymore so I changed them
On top of the changes I mentioned in the last update I made some changes to the color like darkening the color I used for some of my lineart so it could be seen better against the filler color (yellow was especially bad for this), I also changed the eye color from yellow to orange with a more red fade, and even though it's not shown in the old ref the tongue used to be black so I changed that. I might make a blacklight version or even do more with the background once I finish some other stuff.
I'm also really excited because I made a new watermark!
If you don't know what the old one looked like I plan to show the old ref for comparison and it'll be apart of the background. I love this new watermark so much more than the old one tho because I went completely lineless with this one and I put Koi's face in it as well as a mask similar to my comfort character's (can you guess who it is? XD)

Backstory: Shifty and Koi were best friends in elementary school, and because Koi wanted to be a plague doctor she admired them too. It became Koi's partner in highschool and will do anything to protect him and help him in his studies while pursuing its own goals.

Mutabilis Demons/ Shifter Demons
Mutabilis is their official name but they're more commonly known as Shifters
Shifter blood isn't blood in the sense of other creatures, it's the energy that flows through their body similar to blood
Shifter blood floats and may change colors at random, though the shifters mood may play into it or the colors can be limited to certain shades depending on the demon, so not all demons will have the same blood colors
Their bodies are naturally in pieces and no matter what will always have at least one disconnected part, this is a trait to better conserve energy in the same sense that switching weapons is faster than reloading
How blood and other substances can flow/regulate throughout the body despite it naturally being in different pieces is currently unknown
Not all of them are weak to cold, there can be differences or variations that can develop depending on the environment they grew up in or what kind of magic they are most exposed to/their environment can affect their resting form
Not all shifters' natural forms include an outfit
^A shifter can still have an outfit change if they feel like it, there are clothes made specifically for shifters to be able to manipulate like the rest of their body that are similar to ones for other shapeshifting creatures (fairly new)
They can't use magic themselves, but they can act as an amplifier for magic making them ideal partners and familiars
They are low ranking when it comes to demons, and like hellhounds used to be viewed more as pets/slaves/servants
^This mindset has greatly changed in the overworld, but it's only gotten slightly better down in hell itself
They are actually more related to kitsune, hellhounds/werewolves, vampires, and pixies than slimes
^Actually not related to slimes at all, just have a lot of similarities
How they learn to mimic different materials can vary from demon to demon though the most common is eating or absorbing the substance
^Other methods can be learned, though genetics also play a role
When they mimic a substance it's not a perfect replication, their dna will always be part of it
They can also learn different features (either mimicking other creatures or coming up with their own) and with enough practice can create sorts of secondary forms
Color/pigment changes are one of the hardest things to learn
A shifter's mass can change depending on the form they take as their cells can duplicate or die off and a faster rate depending on what's needed
^Energy also plays a role in that
They can combine to make stronger shifters
^This isn't any form of reproduction, it's more similar to when the robots from power rangers or voltron combine or putting together different clothing articles to make an outfit
The resulting shifter is it's own being, with its own personality and often times its own name, along with multiple cores due to it being made of multiple shifters
Since a shifter's body is ever changing they have cores so their souls can have a stable vessel, shatter it and the shifter dies instantly
It is a form of the most extreme trust when a shifter gives someone their core to protect because they are quite literally handing over their soul and their weakness
While they're one of the more typically friendly types of demons they still have their flaws and sins, so don't assume your adorable shifter friend is a completely innocent bean
