It took me a few days but now I've just finished the digital reference sheet for my main character Spade! Before I show it first I want to display the three ref sheets I made, which are all on paper, so we can all cringe at my past together.

So, here's the very picture of Spade. This one was made in a sketchbook that's a couple years old now. The paper that the pages were made out of were pretty low quality and smudged a lot, even when I wasn't erasing, and drawings from one page would get pressed onto the opposite page. Also, everything would appear very faded. The paper was also very weak. As of right now the spine is destroyed and it is quite literally falling apart.

It was around this time that I was first learning how to draw anthropomorphic animals, so of course the anatomy is horrible with the legs being the worst part

Fun fact; I actually made my characters as part of a themed group  before I built their world, so Spade was originally a representation of me, but now she's become more of her own character. The Diamond, the Heart, the Club, and Spade were part of the original four with the Big Joker coming in later and the Little Joker coming in not too long ago. Out of the four, the Diamond has changed the most dramatically with the very first drawing of him looking absolutely nothing like anything that comes after it. You wouldn't even guess they were the same character. Maybe I'll show you guys someday, but for now, back to Spade.

This second picture is of the very first reference sheet I ever made for Spade. This one was made in the same old sketchbook as the first drawing so all the same problems. I also had no idea how reference sheets worked or how to format it properly. It was also by now that I also came up with my first idea for the world she lived in and it was wildly different and a lot more simple than it is now.

The anatomy is better and I looked up an example of a reference sheet to help me with the legs, but it's still not that great. Her body looks inflated and round and her thighs especially look like they were stuffed with balloons. I was also clueless when it came to working out the markings, especially on her legs. The thing that stands out to me the most is how thicc I made her neck. It reminds me of this
