"Colette, how many times must I tell you to wake up?  Carson wake up!" my mother stormed into my room the morning of the Los Feliz pep rally, yelling at my brother from my room.

"Hilary, I am getting up," I said to my mom, knowing calling her by her first name makes her blood boil.

"If you call me that one more time you will be walking to school. Make sure Carson gets up" Hilary Frazier said before slamming the door shut.

I stood from my warm bed, walking to the closet to get dressed for the day. It was a fairly big day for me, I was to perform at the pep rally today after Dirty Candy as a closing act. Dirty Candy, a band at school, performed at every pep rally but the assembly always ran short so they always added another act afterward. This time they asked Colette.

I pulled on my favorite outfit and slipped on my white Doc Martens. I slicked on a basic wing eyeliner and pulled my hair back.

Ring, Ring

My phone shook on the bathroom counter, Carrie's name popped up on the screen.

"What does she want now?" I groaned as I finished combing through her hair.

"Hi!" Carries voice screamed through the phone.

"Hey Carrie, what's up?" I asked, trying to sound as nice as possible.

"I was just wondering if you were ready to perform today? Nervous?" Carrie asked

"Not really, why do you ask?" I said

"Just was thinking you would be because of all those people looking at you. Wouldn't want you to embarrass yourself in front of Tyler." Carrie said, her voice sinister.

"Awww Carrie, I always forget how sweet you are. Worry about your own performance though, might want to retire the highlighter costumes. Not great for your complexion." I said, hanging up.

Tyler was my long-time crush of 5 years, I tried to get rid of the feelings but whatever I did they were stuck to me. He could sing, dance, and overall wasn't completely obsessed with Carrie, unlike every other guy in the school.

"Carson, you ready for school?" I asked my little brother from my room.

"Yep! I'm all good Colette!" My little brother screamed back

"You ready to go Lettie?" my dad popped his head in the doorframe, saying my childhood nickname. I nodded, walking into the garage and getting into my dad's old pickup.

"So, are you excited about your performance today?" He asked as I got into the car.

"Yea, I guess. A little nervous but I know ill do good." I said, my nerves spiking more and more each minute. My dad and I looked at each other, somber looks on both faces.

"Listen, Lettie, I know this hasn't been easy. These last couple months but we're working it out." He said.

"I know dad," I said, the car going silent until the pair pulled up to her school. Grabbing her backpack out of the back, and swinging her guitar case over her left shoulder.

"Hey kiddo, kill it in there." My dad said from the driver's seat, giving an air-high five. Smiling, I walked into the school, heading towards my locker.

"Hey Colette, I heard about your performance today." A deep voice said next to her locker.

"Hey Ty, yea I'm playing after Dirty Candy with a few members of the band," I said

"That's super cool Colette, you know you deserve it more than anyone here." He said, a smile spreading across his face.

"Thanks, Tyler," I said, holding myself together.
