Naruto Oneshots (X Reader)

shikamaru: butterfly 🦋

Content: fluff and a bit of angst
Setting: You are Y/N Hyuuga, "sister" of Neji Hyuuga. You fight Kidoumaru in the attempt to bring Sasuke back to the village.

"Naruto, Shikamaru, Kiba, Y/N, go," Neji demands.

You raise your eyebrows, "What? No, Neji. You go with them. There are stronger enemies ahead. They need your Byakugan."

Naruto pouts, "Why do I have to go? We can all just finish him he-"

"We don't have time to waste," Neji says, "Only you can get Sasuke to come back."

"NEJI!" you shout, "Go ahead with the others, I'll handle this."

He's hesitant, but nods and leads the way for the others. Shikamaru is the last to leave the branch of the tree, and he grips your shoulder.

"Hey, Y/N. Catch up to us, okay?" he says with his eyebrows furrowed.

"Don't worry, Shika. I'll be there in no time! Promise!" you say with a reassuring smile. He smiles back and hops into the trees.

"Look at you, little girl. So confident. I'll kill you!" Kidoumaru shouts and creates a web in his mouth.

"Bring it on!"

After a hard fight...

"My last... chakra," you whisper and limp over to Kidoumaru's body. "Gentle... fist!"

He's retired, and you sigh in relief.
(retired means unable to fight and/or dead)

"So... tired..." you say, and collapse to the floor. Looking to the side, you see a bright blue butterfly. It was glowing. Absolutely beautiful.

Flashback...

You sit on a bench alone in the shade, watching the clouds as they go by. A butterfly flies past you and you watch it. It passes the staircase where a boy was walking up. You two make awkward eye contact at first, but he sits beside you.

"You like watching the clouds too?" he asks.

"Yeah. It's calming..." you reply.

"Yeah. Watching clouds is my favourite thing to do." he points out.

"Same," you agree.

"Anyway, I'm Shikamaru of the Nara clan, and you are...?" he asks.

You blush at the sudden question and actually get a good look at him. Spiky updo, earrings, netted clothing. He was actually sort of... attractive.

"Y/N of the H-Hyuuga clan," you stutter.

He smiles, "Cool. I have a good feeling that we'll get along well."

Present...

"Shika... maru," you whisper, and pass out.

As Shikamaru and his team leap through the trees, a bright blue butterfly passes him. Life goes in slow motion for a split second, and he is immediately reminded of you.

'Be careful, Y/N,' he thinks.

Time skip to after the mission...

While you were unconscious, your body was found and taken to the hospital. Shikamaru was notified, and he was worried sick because you didn't catch up to him like you said you would. He ran to the hospital and demanded your room number. However, the clerk said you were in critical condition and in intensive care. He shook his head and ran up to the intensive care units where he found Shizune running to your room.
