Setting: Y/N is on Kurenai's team for a mission.

As you walk into Tsunade's office with your team, you get ready to face whatever mission is given to you.

"Team Kurenai, I need you to aid Sunagakure. This is a simple task. They need some help fortifying their defences as the Kazekage will be in a meeting in the Land of Earth. This mission could be D rank to A rank, so I trust that you handle anything that happens in that village," she finishes.

"Alriiight! Can't wait to go see the cute girls~" Kiba grins childishly at the thought.

You slap him across the face, "This isn't the time to be checking out girls! We have to defend their village!"

Shino smiles slightly behind his jacket.

"Alright, get to it! It'll be a 3 day trip," Tsunade closes her file and dismisses your team.

As you hop through the trees, the bright light that shone through the leaves slowly dimmed, and it became night time before you knew it.

Kurenai stops your team and you settle down by the stumps of the trees.

"Since this is a 2 night trip, Y/N and Shino, I need you two to keep watch as we rest. Tomorrow night, It'll be Kiba and I on watch."

"What about Hinata?" Kiba asks.

Hinata's barely awake right now. Half lidded, she collapses at a tree and a light snore becomes audible.

Kurenai smiles and puts a blanket on her from her backpack, "She needs the most rest. She's been training more than all of you."

You nod in understanding as Shino hops up onto a high branch to sit down. You follow him and sit on the same branch as he does.

"So..." you break the silence, "The moon looks beautiful, doesn't it?"

He looks up at the moon and nods, "It is quite bright, though."

"Heh. You have glasses. I wouldn't be complaining," you scoff.

A gust of wind hits you both, and you feel a shiver down your back.

'Damnit. I should've brought a sweater or something...' you think.

Shino reads your facial expressions, "Y/N, are you cold?"

"Uh, nope! I'm fine, thanks for asking," you smile.

As the night went on, the gusts became colder and occurred more frequently. You told Shino you weren't cold, yet it was so tempting to get the blanket in your backpack. You rub your own shoulders, shivering.

Shino noticed your shivering and the fact that the tips of your ears were turning red, so without a warning, he took off his long, green jacket and placed it on you. He even put the hood on.

Your breath hitches and you feel your cheeks heating up, "Sh-Shino..."

Shino still has other layers of clothing, so he didn't really mind, "I know you're cold, Y/N. Take it."

You slip your arms through the sleeves and let out a small sigh of relief as you feel the leftover heat from Shino's body.

"Thank you very much..." you say shyly.

He hums in response.

Every time you're sent on missions with Kurenai's team, you couldn't help but fawn for this stoic, smart bug boy that is Shino. You work so much better with this team than your own, and that's because of the easy chemistry and teamwork between everyone (especially you and Shino).

But you felt like it was something more than team work for him. If it were him and Hinata keeping watch right now, he'd go ahead and get her blanket, not give her his jacket.

Maybe you're overreacting a bit. It's just a jacket. A jacket thats so warm and comfy, and it smells good too... Aaaah! 'Keep it together, Y/N!'

A couple hours pass from the small talk, but you feel a little sleepy. Your eyelids droop, "Hey, Shino? Could I just rest my eyes a bit? I can cover for you in 2 hours if you'd like to rest."

He nod once more, "Yes, that seems reasonable. Don't go down, though. Kurenai-sensei will be mad that you went to sleep. Stay here."

"But my blanket is down there..." you pout.

"It's okay. You have my jacket. If you're still cold, come closer to me," he offers.

You gulp. Like... cuddling?

You scoot over to him slowly and put your head on his shoulder. How is he so warm? As you drift off, you feel his arm around you.

2 hours have gone by, and you start to gain consciousness. You slowly open your eyes to find Shino looking down at you. When you notice his arm still around you and the fact that your faces are inches apart, you blush a crimson red.

"Alright, it's time for me to rest," he says and gets up to lean against the tree's trunk.

You stop him, "Wait, can you stay here? I'm still kind of cold..." you admit, "Just lean against me like I did with you."

Though his clothing covers half of his face, the moonlight made a tint of pink on his cheeks visible.

"Very well. I'll stay here. Wake me up at dusk," he says and leans against your side.

When he wakes up along with the squad, Kurenai-sensei asks why you're wearing Shino's jacket.

"Uhh, I was just cold. Shino was being nice and gave me his jacket," you responded.

"Hmph," Kurenai smirks.

The next night...

Hinata fell asleep early again. You grab your blanket out of your bag and lean against the trunk of a big tree.

Since you gave Shino his jacket back during the day, your hands got cold because your blanket could only reach so far before falling.

You sigh, but get startled when something plops down next to you.

"Are you cold again, Y/N?" Shino asks.

"Not really, just my hands," you reply.

Without warning, he grabs your hands and put them in his, "Your hands are quite cold."

Your breath hitches and you blush a bright red, "Y-Yeah, but you don't need to do this for me!"

He shakes his head, "Get some rest."

You sigh in defeat and rest your head on his shoulder, "Hey... what are we?"

His eyebrows raise in shock, "What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. We're basically holding hands right now," you say and look up at him.

He looks off into the distance to hide his growing blush, "I don't know."

You frown, "Shino, I only plan on doing stuff like this with my boyfriend or something. If you don't want to be anything more than friends, kindly let go of my hands."

His grip becomes firm, "I'm sorry, I like you Y/N. I just didn't know how to express it."

Your frown turns into a smile, "That's okay. From now on, don't be afraid. I love you for who you are."

Kurenai and Kiba spectate from a tree above.

"How did he get a cute girl before I did?" Kiba's jaw dropped.

Kurenai smiles knowingly, "Might want to get some tips."
