"Shhhhhh" Alexander said as he rocked his young son, Philip, in his arms, "It's ok. You're father is here for you." He sighed. "I promise I'll always be here for you."
Laurens turned to face them. It didn't take him long to realize this is the kid Alexander told him Eliza was pregnant back at Yorktown. He walked up to them and puts his hand on the arm of the chair to rest on and look at them, but just went right through it, falling to the ground. He got up and wiped himself off, then he noticed.
He was still in his military outfit, which was ripped a bit and soaked in blood. He felt that his wounds were still there, they just didn't hurt. He couldn't feel a thing. Not even his lungs breathing or his heart and beating. Laurens remembered the battlefield. He was remembering the sound of gunfire and British drummer boys drumming commands. Rat ta tat tat!
Laurens flinched thinking about it, but then he realized what had happened. He remembered the young man stabbing him with the bayonet and the nothingness. "Did I....die?" he said, looking at Alexander as if he were asking him.
Alexander didn't response to Laurens, but just continued rocking Philip.
Laurens backed away, not knowing how to feel at this realization.
