As Harriet watched her brother leave, she perched on the edge of the chair, ignoring Sirius's gaze on her. She had been mostly ignored for the last few minutes while Alec was there, but she was no fool to believe it would last much longer. She knew her uncle had seen-and understood-her signing and had likely seen the looks that Alec had sent her. He'd want answers, they all would. It would just be a matter of how she would answer those questions-with half-truths or with carefully crafted lies.
She continued staring at the door that her brother had left through, ignoring the way those around her watched either her or the door. She was avoiding the inevitable, she knew that. But despite everything her brother had tried to drill into her about facing things head on in a Slytherin manner, Harriet hated to face things head on. She'd much rather operate behind the scenes and be the one controlling the controller instead of being the puppeteer.
"I thought you were leaving too," Lily Potter's voice broke the silence.
Harriet's gaze didn't leave the door. "I am."
"Why didn't you then?" James demanded, his voice taking on a defensive edge.
"I am leaving with someone else."
Harriet turned to the crowd, more specifically to the men who were supposed to be her uncles. She wondered if they would say anything about her signing, or if they had caught the way Alec had looked at her. Would they say anything about her arm now that Hadrian was gone? Harriet was not a fool, she knew the room was terrified of her and her twin, and rightfully so. They had the power to destroy any one of them if they so wished. However, Harriet also knew that they feared the raw power that Hadrian held more than the subtle, dark power she herself held.
"Who?" Lily asked. Harriet didn't respond. She'd let them find out for themselves soon enough.
"You were using sign language," Remus Lupin spoke up, changing the subject.
The rest of the room looked shocked. They hadn't known the strange gestures the girl had used meant anything.
"What did they mean?" Molly Weasley inquired, leaning forward in anticipation as so many others were doing.
"She said death at first," Lupin began, ignoring the look of caution cast his way by Sirius. "Then she signed 'not now' to Alec Morti before signing for Hadrian to go."
"I didn't know you use sign language," Lily said softly, wanting to know more about her daughter.
"There's a lot you don't know about me," Harriet snapped, her gaze sharpening. "It has been four years after all."
"Then tell us about yourself," Sirius told her.
She scoffed. "Why would I do that?"
"You're my daughter and you're in my house. You have to do as I, or anyone I say, says," James Potter snapped, his patience already thin from dealing with his eldest son.
Harriet sat back in the chair and raised a brow. Did this man really think he could control her? And on the grounds of blood relation and location? How stupid was he?
Charlie and Bill Weasley saw the look on the girl's face, the look of disbelief and disgust that only showed when men tried to control her. They had seen it many times, and it always ended with her winning. The brothers shared a look and Bill subtly nudged his younger brother as if to tell him to do something. Charlie glared at him and shook his head, drawing the attention of Harriet.
"Do you have something to say boys?" She smirked. She knew what they were doing, after all, it happened every time this situation arose. Bill would try-though not very hard-to get Charlie to do something to stop her from crushing the man who thought he could control her and Charlie would smartly refuse. She found it amusing that it happened every time, however she couldn't openly show it then. The Weasley boys hadn't revealed that they were close with the Potter twins, not even to their Gryffindor friends.
