THEY WALKED IN SYNC. Left, right, left, right. Footsteps like a clock ticking.

Niki pushed Suhye to the side with his shoulder so they wouldn't hit the person trying to pass them, "Are you okay? Your head is somewhere else today, huh?"

Suhye lightly slapped herself, "Right—uh, I just—haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately! Y'know, student event planning, hahah!"

Riki just nodded along, only half buying it.

The autumn air changed, the clouds pulling over. Suhye looked up while Niki touched his hair. They had a shared moment of realization then panic.

"Rain," they whispered. Both checking to see if they had packed an umbrella, even though they both knew they hadn't.

"What should we..."

"Maybe I should..."

The duo looked at each other in distraught.

Eyes darting around, Riki looked a bit restless, "I'll go run home! Yeah, just—uh, stay here!"

Suhye nodded so frantically that she was surprised her neck didn't crack.

He started to run, turning a second later to wink and throw a thumbs-up to the girl. She half-smiled and saluted him as he bounded away.

The girl never really minded the rain, so why were they so frantic? There were two reasons: (1) who really wanted to go to school in wet clothes? and (2) there had been a recent rumour where someone had seen a boy in soaking wet clothes and claimed that he had drowned in the school's "old swimming pool".

As dumb as the rumour was, the friends did not want anything spreading about them. They tried to keep themselves to the "middle social status", and tried not to stick themselves in any cliques. But, of course this was a bit hard with Riki always shining so bright.

Suhye drank her coffee as she ducked under the otherwise abandoned bus stop.

The rain started pouring harder, hundreds of little thumps sounding on the ground.

She quite randomly remembered the "fight" she had with her sister a few days ago. Though just as quickly as the thought came, she dismissed it.

Suhye checked her phone, Niki would get there in time, right? He had to get there in time. She bounced on her heels as the minutes passed by.

Another minute.

Where was he?

Quiet singing started to fill her eardrums, almost harmonizing with the rain. Footsteps followed the melody, a steady beat to go along.

Suhye heard a large gasp cutting off the singing, she turned to the left. A boy standing, himself wide eyed and open mouthed.

She watched him calm down in curiosity.

"Oh! Uh, well hi! Yeah, hello," He hesitated before smiling widely.

A beat.

"... Hi?" Suhye tilted her head, her eyes widened.

Kim Sunoo.

They stared at each other. Suhye awkwardly changed her footing, yet Sunoo didn't seem to even look away.

"I—"

"You should probably get going, right? Don't want to be late for class..?" The girl questioned, checking her phone once again.
