THE BOY GLEAMED AS THE CROWD CHEERED. The cafeteria always gave him his daily energy boost.

He was like a sunflower eating up all the attention he got.

The kid beatboxing—which was paired with the boy's dancing—slowed to a stop.

"AY! Niki! Good as always~!" An older boy shouted out.

A few students gave other cheers of praise and agreement. The rest of them left with shooting him thumbs-ups and smiles. He guessed he was able to give others a bit of energy too, and that was what he loved.

He slid into his regular seat, saluting some of the onlookers leaving. Then he extended his arms to shoot finger guns at some of his friends.

The girl sitting across from him sipped her coffee, looking down at her phone screen. "You did good today."

"You thought I did good today?!" Niki beamed at the girl, unpacking his lunch.

Turning her head up, she replied, "I do think you did good. I always do."

He smiled wider at Suhye's comment. He ate his ramen, watching a dance practice on his phone.

The boy was sweating even though it was mid-autumn. The leaves were changing colour, the nights were growing longer.

"Do you think she's pretty?"

Suhye's question startled the boy, him glancing over to where her vision was pointed. She was watching a girl laugh along surrounded by a bunch of people.

Niki looked back over to Suhye, to see her eyes still fixated on the girl. There was glint in her eyes, maybe jealousy? The boy had a hard time deconstructing her complex emotions and thoughts.

"... Why?"

"I don't know," she sighed.

She drank more of her coffee, closing instagram for her only to open it once more. She meaninglessly scrolled through her explore page. Suhye looked at her tagged posts, reading every caption and scanning the pictures carefully.

"What's with you today? Why're you so... sentimental and sad?" He asked half-jokingly, though he was genuinely worried.

She slowly looked up at him like she hadn't heard a thing she said, "Niki? Do you like the tattoos?"

"W—What!?"

"Do you ever wish the tattoos told soulmates instead of who you've fallen in love with?"

"I guess that could make things easier..." He said quietly.

She stared off into the distance.

He shook his head to get his thoughts sorted. "Hell. Stop being so dramatic. And quit staring like that, some person is gonna see you and think you're in love with them."

She laughed a little, "And what if I am in love with them?"

He laughed as well,"Well, I'm not hearing any wedding bells and I didn't receive an invitation so I'm guessing they declined your proposal?"

Suhye laughed, then she laughed harder. Niki could barely keep his giggles at bay.

People started glancing at them, but looked away to realize it was just them.

The two didn't notice one bit.

Because it was Niki and Suhye. Suhye and Niki. Best-friends. Forever.
